SAFE, UK has been at the forefront of cultural regeneration in Liverpool, facilitating and supporting creatives to develop their entrepreneurial skills through Business and Community Enterprise Support. The PINOLO partnership consists of a wide range of organisations experienced in creative arts delivery, social entrepreneurialism, education, training and support. PINOLO builds on the work of the Erasmus project ‘Supporting Improved Learning Opportunities for Hard-to-reach groups’ (SILO), also coordinated by SAFE, and focussing on the measured acquisition of business skills and competencies through taking part in creative activities. PINOLO continues to value and support creative practitioners to think more like social entrepreneurs, to expand both their commercial and social value. The partnership applied to deliver PINOLO with two main aims – to engage unemployed artists to inform the design of a curriculum, in which modules represented the skills and aptitudes they felt they most lacked in order to be commercially successful. In addition, the partnership introduced the concept of social entrepreneurialism – cross-sector creative practice with both commercial and social value, expanding artists' employment opportunities.
