The Covid crisis caused an unprecedented rise in unemployment and marginalisation on a European level. In June 2020 the unemployment rate among Eurozone countries reached 7.3%, with 2.962 million unemployed. Covid unemployment has not been equally shared across society, with women and socio-economically marginalised groups hit hardest across Europe. Europe’s artistic industries have been one of the most harmed economic sectors due to Covid, with it’s survival secured primarily via the digitalisation of it’s content – a demand for which has continued to grow post pandemic. However, this shift exposed a skills gap in digital competencies amongst this sector’s workforce. There are currently limited resources for adults in audio/digital skill development, and even fewer codeveloped with all players (learners, educators, arts employers) on a European level. There also limited resources suitable for the use of unemployed adults due to Covid AND those unemployed through marginalization, and few flexible enough in accessibility, to be delivered in a wide range of delivery settings, engaging with learners with a plethora of potential needs. RE-WRITE has been developed and implemented in response to these European needs.
