BIM is the maximum expression of what the new technologies can give us and how we can include BIM training in a transversal way in the different formations and specializations, from Architecture and Engineering to Business Management or Art...yes because technologies like BIM can be applied in Art; rehabilitation of historical buildings, of artistic spaces or recovery of the historical heritage. Is it being introduced into university education? University professors and department Managers and Director are aware that the BIM should be known and included in a large part of university curricula and students should leave with this training. The collaborative leadership of the BIM is aware about the main task of the BIM systema and network: implement the social and collaborative environment for the community to provide the data flow. If the students understand it and know it, we can build a useful network sistem in the european universities. The aim of this project is to address the redefinition of a new paradigm related to the training of students and professors that are working and studing on topics related to Specialities related with BIM use. The knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the big opportunity that we try to analyze how to introduce in one transversal way in different university areas and related labour market.
The project aims to redefine a new paradigm of training professors and students on topics related to BIM use. It was also our aim to apply this typical architecture/construction/manufacturing-related concept and framework in transversal settings and across different disciplines. We want and expect that the inclusion of BIM knowledge can be normalised in a transversal way as a reality. We want to see that within 5 to 10 years, BIM will be present in professional fields beyond the construction industry, and commonplace in disciplines such as human resource management, public management, financial management, historical heritage, and others. To do this, we decided to have a sweeping overview of the state of the art in BIM. This would result in the writing of a report encompassing the situation in all partner countries. Once this was done, we would focus on developing an actual academic framework using and managing BIM principles. The result of the framework would be courses that we developed ourselves targeting various key outcomes. By having 5 countries participate in this event, we hope that the international nature of learning and sharing will be another platform to share/disseminate knowledge about BIM to a wider audience.
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a revolutionary way of creating and managing information throughout the lifecycle of a project. We believed we could use the same principles for managing the creation of higher education courses and curricula using a BIM framework. Traditionally, BIM is used in science and industrial fields such as architecture, construction and engineering. Our project looked at using BIM (and providing the related training) in a transversal way to include different disciplines such as Business Management or Art. Currently, it is taught at a small scale in some HEIs. Not enough university professors, department managers, directors and students know of BIM. The project seeks to change this and build a useful network of European universities of BIM users. Our project has redefined a new paradigm for training students and professors with regard to BIM use. We have conducted a study which concluded that BIM is not well-known nor taught widely. We then created a training scheme and curriculum development framework to introduce professors (and then their students) to BIM concepts and applications. Finally, we created open-source BIM and BIM-related courses using the concepts and the framework we have devised.
