Objectives

“Theatre for Living” project was a capacity building project about Theatre of the Oppressed for youth workers. 7 organisations from different European countries with 33 participants were involved in the project. The countries were Austria, Romania, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and Bulgaria. The main goal of the project was to increase the capacity of youth work sector to raise the participation and involvement of young people in social processes and change. There are various issues present in our present lives that are primordially affecting young people on which we as representatives of youth organisation are seriously concerned about: High level of migration and refugees; Economic crises and high levels of unemployment among young people; Political dominance around Europe of Right and growing of extreme rights groups influence; Difficulties in integration of different minorities groups associated with discrimination, marginalization, xenophobia, violence, etc. High levels of violence towards women or domestic violence; Corruption; High level of social apathy of young people- express as a general feeling of indifference towards some of the problems mentioned before. As a consequence, acquiring alternative and effective instruments for dealing with these issues is necessary and represents a priority for youth workers and this project answer to such needs. Based on the experience of the consortium, active in youth work field from more than 14 years, it was clear that Theatre of the Oppressed Methodology is not known and applied enough, even if it is a very efficient methodology for handling social problems. This project was an answer to the needs of various youth organisations that need competencies in new methods for improving the situation of their direct target groups (the ones directly affected by the problems mentioned and not only). Therefore we aimed to bring a contribution to more increased capacity of youth work field to do large social change and by this to support the objectives of Erasmus+ and the specific of KA1 Mobility as inclusive growth, tackle socio-economic challenges, increasing social capital among young people, youth empowerment, active participation, professionalization of youth work, increased capacity of youth organisation and their innovative approaches, make use of non-formal education, increase intercultural awareness and learning, etc. Theatre of the Oppressed is a collective rehearsal for reality. The main idea of these methods is to make people experience and understand how any change of an attitude, behaviour or thinking pattern can have a powerful significant effect on their life as well as lives of people around them. The results and the practice from the field shows that theatre of the oppressed methods are efficient inclusion methods and therefore through this project youth workers will gain and upgrade their competencies in reaching more and more young disadvantaged people. More specific Objectives of the project were: - To introduce innovative methodologies in youth work field - To raise the capacity of partner to operate at European level and in international mobility projects - To stimulate the exchange of best practices in youth work field in using theatre for social change - To increase the quality of the youth organisation projects - To develop and improve skills in non-formal education in general, and in particular in Theatre of the Oppressed methods for European youth workers - To stimulate the development of a network of Theatre of the Oppressed - To improve project management, communication, team leading and motivations skills for youth workers - To develop pro-active attitudes and the sense of initiative among the partners members and also among their beneficiaries. - To increase the level of active participation among the direct and indirect beneficiaries - To contribute to the development of employable skills among direct and indirect beneficiaries.
