Objectives

"Youth Actions 4 Greener Europe" was a youth exchange on the topic of environmental protection and green skills, that organized by Filodasikos Syndesmos Agrou between 05-13 September 2022 in cooperation with partners from Greece, Lithuania, Italy, N. Macedonia and Romania. In the project took part 42 young people (7 people per country) aged 18-30 years old. The Youth Exchange aimed to raise awareness on the issue of climate crisis and the effect of climate change on our planet and its biodiversity. The project took place inside a regional park and protected area of Troodos where, together with professional leaders, we understood the impact that a non-sustainable lifestyle had on the flora and fauna. We discussed about local issues our countries are living and tried to find solutions through activism and networking. Through non-formal education activities, the participants invited to think about and discuss possible changes in their individual behaviours and at the collective level in their communities. The climatic environmental situation over the years is getting worse and worse. In many European countries, especially in the Mediterranean area, there are more and more climate dysfunctions. The strategies we proposed in this project to limit these problems are: the promotion of new methodologies and activities to the leaders of educational institutions, the empowerment of new and old generations on the issue and the introduction of practical and engaging public activities to be proposed to young people. During the preparation stage of the project we did a SWOT analysis with our partners: Strengths: -young people with fewer opportunities are interested in environmental protection and are aware of climate change our openness to work with unemployed young people from rural and urban areas adapt plastic free and environmentally friendly youth tools and methods Weaknesses: - our professional and voluntary youth work staff are not equipped to work with eco-friendly youth work and tools - eco-friendly and plastic free youth work methods and techniques need to be experienced and integrated into our daily youth work activities based on the needs of our target groups. Opportunities: - We cooperate together with other youth NGOs, social institutions and schools in our local communities Threats: - We need to get more financial support from donors, local municipalities, local communities to buy plastic free and eco-friendly materials to create our environmentally friendly youth work tools and method. OBJECTIVES: -To improve critical thinking on environmental issues; -To improve observation in nature; -To raise awareness on environmental crisis; -To share good sustainable practices; -Develop activism and participation in community life; -To learn more about European opportunities. -To promote eco-life The main questions the participants faced are: What is biodiversity? Why is it so important? What is climate change? How was it caused? What are the consequences? What can I do to make a change? The project didn't aim to give answers to all of these questions but to help participants to find the information they need and to improve their abilities on critical thinking and active listening AIMS: -To train youth and youth leaders on using plastic free tools -To use methods within youth work and their lives as role models for young people they work with on a daily basis -To share and invent youth work tools and methods on sustainable development based on the Youth Goal “Sustainable Green Europe” of European Youth Strategy “Engaging, Connecting and Empowering young people”. -Being able to motivate young people to become environmentally friendly European citizens. -To stimulate active EU citizenship towards a green environment; -To explore the best ways to act for a sustainable and green environment in daily life; -To use digital tools to create social campaigns promoting a sustainable and green environment. Young people need to know what ecology is, to understand the issue of sustainable development and care of the planet in order to become a person with responsibility related to the issue of nature protection. It is necessary to know how level of awareness affects the pollution of the environment. To instill love and respect for nature among the participants was one of the main objectives set by us on the project. Through the youth exchange we bring young people in touch with their close environment. Youth pinpointed the environmental problems (local and broader) and brainstormed solutions about these issues (personal and broader level). Young people came together to learn about and provide ideas for the problems that every country faces. In addition during the project we gave young people the chance to change their behavior toward the environment, learn and practice active citizenship, disseminate their knowledge to their familial and local environment and put pressure on future policymaking.
