Summer camps are very unique experiences in children's lives and help to form their personalities more than most people probably realize. They experience adventures that stay with them forever. But they also require a lot of work, enthusiasm and patience from the side of the leaders. The youth workers have to be very skilled and experienced in order to be able to handle taking care of children in natural settings and for such a long time. Our organization TOM Dumánci has 13 years of experience with organizing summer camps for children and through these years, we have worked with many young youth leaders and trained them to gain skills that they need in order to become independent leaders able of taking care of the children and creating programme for them. In the last 4 years, we have connected our summer camp with a youth exchange, which brought also young people from other countries to the camp and gave them the opportunity to learn to work with children. Now we want to take all the experience we have a level higher and create a training course, which will give youth workers the chance to learn to be camp leaders and work directly with children. We shared the initial idea with organizations that we have worked with in the past - we decided not to involve new partners this time, because for working with children, we have to be sure to receive responsible participants. Seven of the partners showed interest in the project and shared with us, what are the needs of the potential participants from their organizations. Together, we made a list of needs that the project should address, in order for all the organizations to benefit from it: - The youth leaders in our organizations need to learn practical skills of youth work and learn to create and lead activities for children. - They need to learn to be responsible for the group of children and be able to act independently. - They need to gain basic knowledge about non-formal education and its methods, explore the concept of games in education and discover concrete tools to use with children. - They need to become more confident with working as leaders also in natural settings - to teach the children outdoor skills but also make sure about safety. We built this project around these specific needs that our organizations have in common and created the programme of the training so that it trains the skills listed above. All of the partners were actively involved in the process of writing the project application form and shared their ideas and feedbacks. This way, we created the feeling of a "common cause" - the responsibility and "ownership" of the project is divided between all of the partners equally and we are also all equally enthusiastic about organizing it. Our project will take place in a beautiful campsite next to the river Lužnice. At the same time as the project, there will be a summer camp in the camp, so the participants will experience what it's like to be a leader on a summer camp - they will prepare and implement activities for the children. There will be experienced camp leaders to lead their learning process, create the programme of the training and share the necessary knowledge. The advantage of the training is therefore very clear - instead of only theoretical talking about youth work (which is the reality of most training courses), in this course, the participants will work directly with children and build not only knowledge in the field of youth work, but mainly practical skills. The directness of the training will awaken the enthusiasm of the participants to become more active in the field of youth work, since the role of a camp leader is a very rewarding experience. These are the aims of the project: 1. To raise the quality of youth work carried out by the partner organizations by improving the professional skills of the youth workers involved in them. 2. To raise the capacity of the organization to work with children in outdoor settings. 3. To work also with young people from the local area and teach them new skills. 4. To organize at least 3 follow-up activities per country in order to make an impact on the young people the organization is working with. 5. To strengthen cooperation between youth organizations by creating new contacts between the young members of the organizations, who have the potential to develop international activities/projects together.
