Objectives

NGOs provide non-profit social work, which helps in the betterment of society. Digital marketing increases the scope of people that can be reached and be useful for NGOs. It leverages digital channels such as social media, email, search engines, and the latest online technologies to reach the target audience. Digital marketing gives businesses a great platform to increase and attract a number of clients. Similarly, it can be used by NGOs to spread awareness about social causes and encourage people to volunteer for a social cause. Once the internet became the communication platform of choice for the majority of people world-wide, it simply became necessary to have some form of presence online. Without a website, a blog, or a social media profile, organizations have little means at their disposal to attract attention. Even if a company somehow manages to get by without a digital marketing strategy in place, it is not likely to last long in today’s competitive environment. Marketing is a way to spread NGO’s message points, share its mission statement, alert the public to events, and share news. Marketing is particularly important for NGOs as they usually need ways to market their cause to volunteers who would want to help and to donors that will give to their cause. Global NGO Technology report for 2018 (www.techreport.ngo) states that today, social networking is a part of an NGO’s communications and fundraising strategy. Even more telling is that 71% of NGOs agree that social media is effective for online fundraising and 25% of donors say that social media is the communication tool that most inspires them to give. However, even if there no doubts in importance and necessary of marketing strategy, the same report states that says that only 32% of NGOs have a written strategy and long-term marketing planning. There are several reasons for that. In most of the cases the NGO staff do not have high level of competences in the creating marketing strategies. Some of them might attend SMM courses or do some self-studies, but not everybody can afford it due to time or money limitation. Some NGOs, especially small ones, do not think about importance of their visibility and what benefits they will receive from it. There also an issue in lack of NGO staff, as it was already mentioned, it is pretty often that members of NGOs do not have competences to work on promotion of their organization visibility and not each organization can afford to hire a marketing expert. The nonprofit organizations, with their more limited budgets, could be at a disadvantage. To operate, thrive, and raise awareness for their cause without spending a substantial amount of money can seem impossible in a world of bigger, louder, and more financially equipped online advertisers. If NGO is not visible in social media world it is harder for them to build the trust with their target groups and increase the number of supporters it also make more complicated for them to find sources of donation. In 2018 we implemented LTTC “Make yourself visible” The feedback of participants, sending organizations and other stakeholders, showed us that there is a great need in the project on similar theme. Taking into account all foresaid we come up with the idea of this LTTC, but this time we decided to focus more NGO branding and creating marketing strategies. Objectives of this project are following: - to develop and improve skills of creating and supporting marketing strategy and brand of NGO among youth workers and NGO representatives which is important for their future positioning - to gain experience, knowledge and good practice in different fields like communicativeness, public speaking, creative thinking, time and conflict management, team work, visualization of materials, usage of digital tools, strategic planning, etc. - to develop participants’ competences such as sense of initiative and entrepreneurship, self-empowerment and self-esteem through project management and peer-learning in training courses - to improve participants’ intercultural awareness and expression through discovery of new traditions, lifestyles, cultures and habits - to allow youth workers and NGO representatives from different countries to learn about marketing strategy and branding for their organizations, at the same time sharing their experience and learning from each other - to create conditions where youth workers will be able to practice creating brand for their own NGOs as well as marketing strategy which will allow them to “stand out from the crowd” - to allow youth workers understand that creating marketing strategy doesn’t cause spending a lot of financial resources and there’re many free online tools available for that These objectives link to Erasmus+ and KA1 objectives as project: - provides youth workers with skills which are valuable for enhancing work of NGOs and youth organizations around Europe - improves level of key competences and skills of young people, including those with fewer opportunities - enhances participants' foreign languages competences - promotes youth mobility in Europe, active citizenship, raises awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries among participants - fosters quality improvements in youth work, in particular through enhanced cooperation between organizations in the youth field and/or other stakeholders
