Many young people we work with, especially those staying in the countryside during Covid-19 isolation, experience the drought of this spring with their parents loosing crops (in Romania, Serbia, Ukraine). Half of them realized how polluted their living places are, when paying attention to data provided by reduced usage of transport during pandemic (particularly in Greece, Czech Republic and Italy). And vast majority expressed their concern about their future in the context of diseases, consumption, lack of water and possible forced migration. Another realization is that our youth workers are not educated nor experienced enough to answer to these specific concerns - and neither are they ready to support youth in taking concrete actions, as youth workers themselves are struggling with finding out what they personally could do when it comes to climate change. We decided to respond to these needs by designing a project that will prepare youth workers for actions with their clients, and consequently to support young people in finding solutions to their questions and their need of contribution to these issues. We want to support youth workers in understanding climate support and experiencing sustainable life style as a solution, so that they are ready to bring knowledge, experience and guidance to their youth back home. We aim to increase education and practice in sustainability and zero waste practice, as we find it crucially important nowadays. “My Climate Step” is a project promoting personal response to climate change, practicing sustainability and zero waste life style while staying “off-line” in natural environment. WE WANT TO ACHIEVE The idea behind is to empower participants of TC for spreading what they have learned during our project in their youth groups by sharing the experience also via organizing a series of workshops and a local conference "Climate change: personal response" back in their countries. There young people can take part in changing their environment in a sustainable way and experience the power of being involved and active. OBJECTIVES: 1) to raise personal response of individuals to the climate change; 2) to train attitudes of youth workers and young people towards sustainability and zero waste; 3) to support youth workers and youth in personal connection via disconnection from on-line devices. Inclusion of less-opportunity youth, non-formal and intercultural environment and focus on a relevant topic of climate change and sustainability are links to E+ program.
