Objectives

Equality between women and men is one of the objectives of the European Union. Over time, the legislation, jurisprudence, and changes to the treaties have contributed to strengthening this principle and its implementation in the European Union. The European Parliament has always been a fervent defender of the principle of equality between men and women. Inequalities exist between women and men everywhere in our society: in political and economic fields, access to decision-making, resources, education, care, etc. Reducing these inequalities and empowering women is a lever for growth and development that enables women to realize their economic potential. The "gender" approach makes it possible to understand that inequalities between women and men are the product of a social construction resulting from the social norms specific to each society. It makes it possible to question and deconstruct the stereotypes attributed to women and men and to combat inequalities and discrimination. Gender equality is a fundamental human right, a necessary precondition for sustainable, people-centered development. Through this project for youth workers and youth leaders, our organization want to address gender disparities and to promote equality in participation in the mobility and to create a gender balance in the youth projects (access), within the training program to develop the youth workers skills about the gender mainstreaming topic (concepts, content, context and practices, delivery modes and assessments), and through project-based learning (learning outcomes, life, and work opportunities). Analysis of international data shows that gender inequalities persist in all areas of development. Gender Equality Action Plan (GAP) for 2016-2020 emphasizes the need for women and girls to fully and equally benefit from all human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as the need to achieve gender equality and empower women and girls. The European Charter for the Equality of Women and Men in Local Life is a relevant tool for local and regional authorities wishing to mainstream gender in all their skills and actions, including employer skills. Regarding the daily conditions of the youth workers, reflection on gender raises many questions about working conditions, the well-being of team members, and the principles governing the functioning and management of youth organization: recruitment, working time, schedules, management, wages, career development, work-life balance, and a non-sexist and non-discriminatory working environment. For the above reasons, the project will have the following purpose and objectives: Purpose: Raising awareness and building the capacity of youth workers and youth NGOs to promote gender equality and prevent discrimination in their work. Aims: - Develop participants' understanding of key terms to fight gender inequalities such as gender, human rights, peace, peace education, emotional literacy, masculinity and femininity, gender roles, consent practices, work emotional, workplace discrimination, gender intervention discrimination; - Map harmful behaviors and causes of gender inequalities (based on the root cause method) and how they affect young people; - Develop skills to combat gender inequality by exploring the perspectives of human rights, peace-building and democratic participation, including the legal framework for the protection of gender equality; - Explore and put into practice tools to fight against gender inequalities, such as emotional literacy, non-violent communication, non-violent activism, gender mainstreaming, alternative behaviors and deconstruction gender roles and the principle of inclusiveness; - Acquire skills to establish ongoing relationships with peer responsibility by providing a place of support to reflect, process and express emotions; - Develop respect for multiple identities and experiences of masculinity and feminity; - Strengthen the international cooperation of participants and their organization in the field of gender equality, by planning at least 10 local or cross-border actions focused on the deconstruction of toxic masculinity, gender roles, and gender discrimination and violence ; - Strengthen the sustainability of the network of young peacemakers who will raise awareness among citizens and political decision-makers in the EU and neighboring countries of existing gender inequalities and how to remedy them. The ultimate goal of the project’s priority, gender equality, is to strengthen the youth organization’s capacity, through its policies, programs, and initiatives. The youth workers (both women and men) must enjoy equal opportunities, choices, capabilities, power, and knowledge as equal citizens. Equipping girls and boys, women and men with the knowledge, values, attitudes, and skills to tackle gender disparities is a precondition to building a sustainable future for all and a key to achieving many other goals ranging from economic growth to poverty reduction.
