Objectives

High youth unemployment in Europe has been one of the main focal points of EU policy in recent years. Initiatives such as the European Solidarity Corps and the EU Youth Guarantee clearly show this development. Marginalised young people in particular, such as those with disabilities, migrants and socially disadvantaged young people, are finding it increasingly difficult to integrate into the labour market. The German-French project "Joint Youth of Europe" takes up these developments by encouraging disadvantaged young people to actively think about their future. The target group of the project are German and French young people with few opportunities. They come from very low-income and socially disadvantaged families, have learning difficulties and have often only achieved very poor school-leaving qualifications. They have finished school, but due to their disadvantages they have much fewer chances on the labour market than other young people and therefore have not found an apprenticeship or a job. The vocational orientation of disadvantaged young people is often difficult. Due to school failures and their disadvantages, our participants tend to have low self-confidence and therefore have difficulties recognising their abilities and using them for a profession. At the same time, they have much worse chances on the labour market due to poor school-leaving qualifications and social disadvantages. Therefore, an international vocational orientation tailored to this target group in another EU country was very important.
