Young people in Europe and all over the world are currently gaining awareness on the global climate crisis as well as the global economic structures that hold part of the responsibility for it. At the same time, fair and sustainable trade alternatives become more and more popular. We want to invite 20 young people between 18 and 29 years to dive into these topics on a deeper level while also actively supporting an alternative as well as gaining international experience. Our project is a Dutch German cooperation; the participants from Germany will all be residents of Northrhine-Westphalia, a state sharing a long border and history with the Netherlands. Even if from many places it is possible to visit the other country in less than an hour on the train, personal relations are still rare. By bringing together 10 young people from Germany and 10 young people from the Netherlands, we also want to change that. "Fietsen for Chocolate - Fair and Sustainable Action Week" means that we will truly experience action and a lot of chocolate. We will meet in Amsterdam, learn about global trade relations and their impact on environment and humanity, and then take responsibility for one great alternative: CO2-neutrally produced fair trade chocolate from a manufacture in Amsterdam. We will visit the factory and pick up up to 200kg of their chocolate, load it on our bikes and transport it within 4 days to Münster, where it is being sold as the "CO2-neutral Schokofahrt chocolate" in fair trade and wholefood shops.
