In order to develop a consistent European identity, European narratives are required, in which both the cultural differences of the international community and the common values of Europe are presented concretely and clearly. Heroes are particularly suitable for this kind of storytelling, as they provide orientation, especially for children and adolescents, as positive figures of identification. Through their actions, they can raise awareness of European values and strengthen a European identity. The aim of the project was the development of heroes by young people who act individually or as a team and represent Europe both in its diversity and in its common values. The project allowed young people to delve into aspects of their own culture and to broaden their knowledge of Europe's history and current challenges. By creating identification-figures for other young people, the participants creatively translated the knowledge they acquired into narrative. In the emerging exchange, they also expanded their intercultural and linguistic knowledge. Last but not least, the adaptation of the narrative in the form of comic gave them the opportunity to acquire specific and professional knowledge, to get in touch with professionals, such as Comic-Designer, Editor und Director of Photography, Freelancer in the Secto of Design and Videography, employees of NGOs, and to get an overview of the work in the sector of comic, digital media and civil society. The main goal of the project was to arise an intercultural dialogue in which national issues/problems were addressed and the participants became aware of that these may go beyond the national level and are actually global challenges. It is important that through this process the participants presented possible solutions to the problems discussed and understood the impact of the initiatives and the engagement of individuals. They understood how through different media, like art, digital art e.g. people can be motivated in order to create a better future. They also wondered whether the world actually needs superheroes to change things these days, or if each of us could become a little hero and do small changes with a big impact. In addition, the focus was on technics like problem-solving, conflict-management, reflection and critical thinking. These are competencies of great importance in groups with cultural and social diversity and at the same time they are prerequisites for a harmonious working life in an international environment. Furthermore, the participants were specifically involved in various phases of the project, their opinion was asked and they actively participated in the youth exchange. The aim was that they not only learned by participating in informal activities, but also organized activities themselves, took on roles and strengthen their entrepreneurial spirit. In summary, the project aimed at the following points: 1. Intercultural sensitization of the participants and active inclusion of marginalized young people. 2. Strengthening the willingness to cooperate and the creativity of the participants. 3. Promotion of reflection skills, self-initiative and engagement on important issues as the future of Europe, values concepts, democracy and freedom. 4. To support the informal and autonomous learning, interdisciplinary and internally differentiated project teaching. 5. Familiarity with the art world. Realization of what can be achieved through art. 6. Understand challenges as opportunities for further development and strengthen self-confidence. 7. Strengthening the organizational and decision-making skills of young adults and teenagers. 8. Establish a link between school education and vocational education. 9. Promotion of personal, entrepreneurial / transversal, social, digital and communication skills. 10. Dissemination of the project results and publicize the project, especially at the local level, in order to generate valuable synergies with the civil society.
