Objectives

Pangera e.V., Une Terre Culturelle and the organization Graine de Paix organize seminars for youth workers and youth exchanges on the theme of history. In fact, we often have the impression that history is a topic of communion and debate that excites young people, especially when it takes place between people from nations that have crossed, fought or allied. With Graine de paix (Oran/Algeria) and Une Terre Culturelle (Marseille/France) we share this experience and believe that dialogue between young people can make a difference. Indeed, it could help bring these nations closer together, which, in addition to their common history, share a cultural heritage that persists in all three countries through the diaspora and the cultural departments of the embassies. The project partners, through their collaboration with the Franco-German Youth Office, are working on the collective Franco-German memory and the need for community between these two peoples who are at the center of European dynamics today. The similarity between the Franco-German conflicts during the two wars and the Franco-Algerian conflict, as well as the encounter between Algerians and Germans during the same wars through a forced recruitment of Algerians alongside the French armies, have generated numerous anecdotes thanks to which the participants* regularly fill the exchange with content.  Algerian and German history have often intersected, particularly during the Cold War and especially on the soccer field, which has left a special mark on the Algerian people. The city of Marseille, which has seen both Germans and Algerians come and go throughout history, has preserved the traces of these passages in its neighborhoods. Today, it is a cosmopolitan city that lives through this world history and sees diasporas from different cultures develop within it.   Sometimes the histories meet and sometimes they create a common heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to meet around this heritage and make it the basis of a better world. During a week in the city of Marseille, the Franco-German-Algerian youth exchange 'Au carrefour des Histoires' aimed to bring these stories to life through the cosmopolitan city that was and is a dynamic crossroads of civilization. The exchange brought together 26 young people from Algeria, Germany and France and included non-formal education activities on group dynamics and language animation on history, activities to decode and decipher places in the city related to history, workshops on history and memory and thematic visits. Language animation: We offered language animation every day of the program to familiarize the participants* with the languages spoken during the exchange. They promote verbal and non-verbal communication in the exchange, de-dramatize linguistic communication, allow young people to easily overcome barriers towards the partner's language and often awaken the desire to learn this language more systematically after the encounter. The method of language animation is based on the theme history and memory for this exchange, allowing participants to discover the lexical field of the main subject in different languages. Intercultural methods: These methods aim to raise awareness of intercultural learning. Included is an intercultural evening (informal moment to create a good group atmosphere and cultural exchange).
