In recent years, the number of implemented projects in the field of non-formal education & international youth work has grown enormously. This goes hand in hand with the observation that many individual trainers start their educational practice as a (professional) way of life and as a source of income. Nevertheless, we are convinced that the projects - and thus we as those who carry them out with young people and our cooperation partners - often lack reflection, knowledge & awareness about a simple but crucial question, namely how to create and design learning in order to define & achieve impact (individually, organisationally and systemically) in cooperation with the target group(s). Or, formulated as a thesis: in order to achieve (and measure) impact, we need to really understand learning. In order to put this opportunity into practice we were convinced it’s necessary to first re-evaluate current findings on the subject of learning, second to acquire competences and third to enable sharing and development of those competences in the respective fields of learning. Therefore the main aim of the project was to bring together expertise in the field of neurology, psychology and pedagogics to understand the current development in the field of learning and make it accessible for non-academic practitioners and youth. Subsequently we wanted to apply those competences in the work of the participating entities. We aimed at developing new methods, adapting existing methods and increasing the quality of session design of any kind of educational offer that members of this consortium offer to their target groups. Finally, we aimed at measuring the impact of those developments. We wanted to increase the understanding of how we can achieve better impact of the activities that we offer to our target groups. Lastly, we wanted to follow-up this process with empowering NGOs, their staff and most importantly their target groups to excel in learning, to create new projects starting from this very project. With this project, we wanted to increase substantially the quality of training in the field of non-formal education by • offering training to multipliers (A1 SE: Kick-off: What is learning) • offering a professional space for developing new practice (A2 TC: Shaping & Designing learning) • offering training to multipliers on evaluating impact (A3 SE: Evaluation & Impact) • offering space for cooperation and follow-up (A4 SE: Harvesting & follow-up)
