Objectives

With the “Breaking Through - your right for self-determination in gender” project, we aimed to achieve the following objectives: 1) Raise awareness among the participants of the project about the problems and issues that LGBTQI+ communities face nowadays in participants' countries and build a common understanding how those problems might be tackled and approached from a practical point of view. 2) Introduce participants to the situation of LGBTQI+ communities in Germany and in particular in Berlin, providing an overview about the history of LGBTQI+ movement. Finding out about different practices and strategies grass-roots organisations have been using locally while fighting for LGBTQI+ rights, as well as about learning different ways of supporting queer communities. 3) Through case studies and project visits, the organisers aimed at providing participants with different perspectives thus to empower and motivate them to promote the ideas of inclusion and non-discrimination back in their own communities and countries. 4) Another objective was to learn from each other, learn about what is happening in neighboring countries, share experiences about the participants local LGBTQI+ realities and what is being done locally by activists to cope with those realities and issues. 5) Establish contacts amount participants, partner organisations, overcome disconnecting factors and build capacity and networking. 6) Share, encourage and introduce non-formal ways of learning about queerness, diversity, self-determination, love and non-binary, gender equality. Motivate participants to use those methods back as trainers or youth workers in their home countries, partner organisations and communities. 7) Develop together with participants creative methods, tools and workshops on how the above topics could be promoted and disseminated in order to advocate and campaign for LGBTQI+ rights more effectively. 8) Provide more visibility to the topic by creating together with participants visual and informative materials: articles, videos, theatre pieces, performances, posters and using social media for more visibility outcomes.
