The project was planned by a group of 14 youngsters between 13 and 17 years with support of two young volunteer youth group leaders. The group and the youth leaders were meeting weekly since October 2019 and developing their own international youth exchange within the project of wir weit weg. This project was successfully established since 2014 in Leipzig. It aims to work with young people from marginalized parts of Leipzig and in small cities in Western Saxony, where xenophobic attitude and/or the rates of voters of right wing parties are high, where young people have less access to leisure time activities and/or learning mobilities abroad. The participative project of international youth work aims to achieve that these people get access to activities of international youth work, get in first contact with self-organized projects, democratic means of decision making, non-formal education, get the possibility to make new friends abroad, to widen own perspectives, reflect on own cultural heritage by getting into contact with a foreign one. For the international partner groups we wanted to achieve that they take part in an international youth exchange – for some this also was the first time to make such an experience, to get involved with the topics the wir weit weg-group has elaborated, which was: sports, fitness, healthy cooking, social media and filmmaking; to get to know new people from other countries.
