Objectives

The project "International Volunteering Camp: Working Togehter for Peace and Reconciliation" is based on a cooperation between german and palestinian youth that exists for years. This year a swedish group and the arabic branch of an israeli organisation joined the project so that it is now a multilateral learning experience. Most of the participants are in some ways involved in the work of the youth associations "Independence Youth Union" from Palestine, "Ajyal" from Israel, Unga Örnar from Sweden and SJD - Die Falken from Germany. Mainly the participants exchanged experiences and knowledge concerning voluntary work, developed a global perspective on civil society and strengthened the structures of each organisation in this regard. Meeting activists from trade unions, independent parties, refugee camps and local projects as well as the development of specific positions and perspectives in workshops, raised awareness about the necessity of voluntary work and a strong democratic civil society. The project showed connections between history, society and politics in Europe and the Middel East and aimed on commitment for peace, democracy, social development, and social justice.
