Currently, more young people keep losing faith in democracy. This is an existing and increasingly harmful tendency. Specific factors create and keep maintaining the disbelief in democratic values, such as the growing distrust in key institutions, the increasing number of populist or anti-establishment leaders, and general economic dissatisfaction. In addition, during the Covid-19 pandemic, certain governments, referring to the danger of the virus, approved special regulations which give them supremacy upon the existing laws and, thereby, they jeopardize the level of democracy and the rule of law. Based on these phenomena, the Partners identified the need to deepen their youth workers understanding of the concept of democracy, as well as to improve their competences on how to transfer the knowledge about the importance of democratic values to young people in their local communities. Therefore, the project aimed to promote and maintain the current democratic values and strengthen the belief of democracy's importance amongst young people. In order to achieve the aim of the project these were the objectives: 1) to deepen youth workers' understanding upon the meaning and importance of democracy, also the role of the European Union to preserve it; 2) to deepen youth workers' understanding upon the factors which can decrease the strength of democracy and the effects of its deconsolidation; 3) to equip youth workers with skills and competences how to maintain democracy: critical thinking, detection of fake news, fighting populism; 4) to raise youth workers' awareness on the current political issues, and how to be active citizen in Europe; 5) to provide youth workers with new non-formal methods by which they will promote the importance of democracy and the participation in democratic life amongst young people; 6) to raise youth workers' confidence in organizing local activities upon promoting the values of democracy designed by non-formal methods.
