Objectives

Social and emotional well-being has been linked to young people’s schooling outcomes, their social development, their capacity to contribute to the workforce and the community, the rate of youth suicide. The WHO had estimated that depression alone will constitute one of the greatest health problems worldwide by the year 2020. Deep unhappiness, disordered mood, feelings of hopelessness and thoughts of suicide are common among young people. This lowered mood may be risk factor for long-term social problems and depression. This year of the Covid-19 pandemic that mental health problems will be severe especially among young people. Creative YouthLand and its partners want to take a positive approach to the promotion of emotional health among young people by carrying out these projects for youth workers and young people to address these needs by understanding and developing their skills at building resilience, empowerment and positive mental health both within themselves and the young people they work with. Using Non Formal methodologies we are going to develop the creative competencies, specifically in the topics of positive mental health, resilience and empowerment for youth through 2 activities to be implemented in Egio, Greece: A1.A 6-day training course held from 1st to 8th of December 2020 for 20 youth workers from Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. A2.A 6-day youth exchange held from the 15th to 22nd of March 2021 for 28 young people aged between 18-30 and 7 youth leaders from Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain. The emphasis will be on various ways young people might cope with stressful or difficult life events and challenges and we will focus on personal coping skills and creative skills for expression and self reflection. The objectives and expected results of the projects are: 1. For the participants on the TC to come away with concrete methods and ideas to help develop their own sense of empowerment, resilience & positive mental health and put into action ideas and methods to increase positive mental health in the young people they work with. 2. For the young people on the YE to come away with concrete methods and ideas to help develop their own sense of empowerment, resilience & positive mental health and incorporate these into their lives. 3. For the participants of both the TC and the YE, to explore the potentials of creative methodologies as a way for self-discovery, stress reduction, creativity, empowerment, resilience and positive mental health. 4. For both the participants on the TC and the young people on the YE to be part of an intercultural learning experience. 5. For the participants of the TC to facilitate their exchange of experience regarding their work with their own young people. 6. For the young people on the YE to understand both themselves and other young people thereby feeling less isolated, better able to understand positive mental health and understand what they can do to encourage it within themselves and others. 7. For the participants on the TC to encourage European co-operation in the youth field. These objectives relate to the objectives of Erasmus+ youth mobility: •To support the acquisition of skills of youth workers and young people on their personal and professional development and improving their employability. •To improve the language skills and intercultural learning of the participants. •This project also addresses E+ youth Inclusion and Diversity strategy as both activities will seek to combat poor mental health particularly in disadvantaged young people and those facing social, economic and educational difficulties. •We are promoting the international cooperation and intercultural dialogue between partner and programme countries. •We also will be building up key competencies and skills of young people including young people with fewer opportunities through the acquisition of skills by the youth workers and directly with the young people in the youth exchange. •Through youthpass we will ensure better recognition of competencies gained through their learning periods abroad. •Promote active participation in civil society and develop a sense of European citizenship. •Youth workers increase their professional development in the field with a view to innovating and improving the quality of Youth work across Europe and in their country. •They will further be increasing their motivation and satisfaction in daily work through the strengthening of their mental health. The methods used:mindfulness and creativity, theatre and drama, art and creativity, nature and outdoors, music and dance/body movement, conversation, will all take place in a context of improving resilience, positive mental health and empowerment. Long term benefits will be an environment where people can be more resilient, open, understanding and positive in their attitudes and behaviour towards mental health and an increased knowledge of how to achieve this.
