Objectives

In the context of emerging Human Rights education, the Association of Human Rights Educators - AHEAD has been working already for some years on educational aspects related to new technologies and specifically on digital rights and responsibilities in youth work. We consider digital rights the extension of human rights in the digital environment, including the right to privacy, the right to non-manipulated information, freedom of expression, among many others. The same rights and responsibilities that we human beings have in the physical world must also be protected online. Together with the partner organisations, the project addressed the growing concerns about abuses in the digital environment by actors who do not respect the main fundamental rights that appear to our societies and especially to young people who are its native users. As organisations dedicated to the promotion of human rights and democratic values, the project addressed the role that youth work should play in counteracting these risks and promoting the reappropriation of digital tools for the defense and protection of fundamental rights. The training course focused on the role of youth work as a space to reflect on the challenges of digitization and the development of competences to re-appropriate digital tools for the defense of fundamental rights. The objectives of the course were: - Analyze the challenges to preserve fundamental rights in the digital environment and how they affect the dynamics in the field of youth; - Provide educational tools and develop youth workers’ competences to reflect on and question their own digital consumption practices, working for a safe and human rights respectful digital environment; - Exchange innovative youth work practices and develop initiatives that contribute to preserving the rights to privacy, data protection and freedom of expression by counteracting surveillance, censorship and manipulation in the digital environment - Increase quality and develop cooperation strategies within the Erasmus+ programme, especially in aspects related to digital competences, creating synergies and establishing cooperation networks between youth organisations.
