Objectives

The project has wanted to create a space that provides young people with new and different tools to spend their free time, and at the same time, to create a space for reflection that makes them reflect about and identify problems in their communities. Social theater (and its different branches such as forum theater, image theater, body expression, improvisation, clown, community theater, etc.) and non-formal education has been used as the main working methodology, which has allowed them to develop relevant and highly important competences such as interpersonal relationships, social skills, teamwork, initiative and self-motivation. It has also shown that the performing arts are a possible way to promote social change and not just a creative and leisure tool. Through social theater, they were able to acquire tools for the identification of social problems and how to develop a process of raising awareness of them in their local communities. As partners of the project, we believe in the enormous potential and capacity of youth in terms of social transformation and that is why we wanted to raise their awarness regarding the oppressions, (dis-)privileges and discrimination that surround us on a day-to-day basis. The project created spaces for coexistence where young participants coming from countries with such different realities, as Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, Poland, Romania and Spain, have developed their solidarity and empathy, new ways to improve their personal skills. The youth exchange has encouraged them to express themselves and to express their culture through physical expression, mime, non-verbal language and movement. They were able to learn how to communicate in new ways, breaking down barriers and creating new ways of relating. The aim of the project was to integrate and use the methodology of social theater, as a non-formal educational approach, for the development of key and relevant competences of young people. The specific objectives were: -Introduce the values and principles of social theater approach to youth education and empowerment. -Create a space where the participants can learn and practice the methodology of social theater, such as forum theater, improvisation and physical theater. -Use the performing arts as an alternative to technologies to communicate, reflect, learn and relate. -Promote the development of competences, skills and aptitudes of the participants through non-formal education. -Promote active citizenship, European awareness, social inclusion and tolerance. -Promote cooperation between partners and participants in the field of youth work and within the framework of the Erasmus+ program.
