Objectives

Our aim was to provide young people with an opportunity to develop their knowledge about the environment and sustainability, the available means of local involvement and facilitate a change in attitude and behaviour to encourage a more sustainable lifestyle. This project did foster intercultural learning, between the participants as well as with the local community, we promoted volunteering and lifelong learning. Our ambition was to create vocations and encourage further education or professional development in the sector, thus improving their access to the employment market and contributing to the local economy. By working on the reforestation action, these young people and our local volunteers were able to reconnect with nature, develop their sense of citizenship, as well as work in something concrete, seeing the fruits of their effort, commitment and dedication throughout the project. This thriving land had an added value for them, since they had created it with their own hands and they have been able to come back or follow our social media and admire the consequences of these nine days of shared hard work. The project has touched topics of volunteering, intercultural learning, peace-building, nature conservation, energysaving and food consumption to ensure a meaningful and useful experience. The youth exchange programme has achieved 5 main objectives set by the promoter organization: -To raise the level of environmental awareness within the young participants and the local community about the impact consuming, travelling and living can have for the environment. -To facilitate a more sustainable lifestyle; by promoting alternatives and options on how to become more responsible when developing our life without threatening the future generations.
