Due to the extraordinary situation related to the mass migration in Europe, "Euro-Med Eve France" together with partners initiated a project "Sport is superpower" which was based on sports, outdoor education, and social inclusion. We noticed that Europe citizens were very frustrated because of current changes and a new wave of discrimination, hate, and anger was starting in the continent again. A huge number of racist crimes in Europe had risen as well, especially hate crimes against Muslims following the Paris attacks. There was an urgent need to reduce social tensions, to raise the level of tolerance, to promote understanding and accepting each other despite cultural and religious differences. Our aim was, with the help of sport as a development tool, to foster solidarity and social inclusion. One very important question might have arisen: how is sport related to inclusion? We believed that sport(we would use various sport and outdoor education methods but hiking as the core) through its universality, could transcend cultural, socioeconomic, and political barriers, which is very important in an international context. Sports are extremely powerful tools for development, especially within international communities. Moreover, sport reflects on different values and can create a bridge between different social groups forming better mutual understanding. The answer could have been reaffirmed by citing United Nations which “recognizes that sport, as a tool for education, development, and peace, can promote cooperation, solidarity, tolerance, understanding, social inclusion, and health at the local, national, and international levels.” We started all days with morning sports, most of non-formal education methods were done in outdoors and we did hiking (sometimes over the night) during all the main activity. Another question could have been: why Hiking? First of all, hiking is a big individual and group challenge, instincts of self-preservation disappeared therefore it became easier to analyze sensitive topics, people did not hide under the masks therefore better results could be reached. Youth also learned faster in such environment. Second, we did directly relate it with the current situation whereas a lot of refugees had to walk over mountains, cross the sea and borders to reach peace in Europe. We did similar things in order to step in their shoes for a while. We believed that this correlation would help us to reach even better results and would help to start thinking about the current situation. We combined every day's active lifestyle with non-formal education methods in youth work. The specific objectives of this project: To reach personal development which helped to understand ourselves and reflect on own behavior and behavior of others; Challenge the perception of the structures within our society that undermine social inclusion or foster discrimination; Overcoming the stereotypes of different religions; To raise awareness on the topic of discrimination; To build a broader understanding of what an inclusive attitude means and to start inter cultural and inter- religious dialogue; To understand the connections between culture and sport and to understand the inter cultural aspects of sport; To raise the sense of empathy towards other people. One of the specific objectives of the Erasmus+ was very related to the goal of our project: "Fighting poverty and social exclusion". Also for 2020, the special emphasis was given in Erasmus+ to reaching out to marginalized young people, promoting diversity, inter-cultural and inter-religious dialogue, common values of freedom etc. We had similar goals and objectives in this project. We focused strongly on the pedagogical dimension of sport used in a non-formal educational context to provoke a positive social change: the youth exchange was based on the principles and practice of non-formal education taking into account participants’ needs, motivations, and experiences. A variety of methods were used to allow the involvement of participants with different learning styles and to ensure a balance between theory and practice. One of our sources was a manual for Non-Formal Education Through Sport and Physical Activities with Young People "MOVE&LEARN". At the end of the YE, we made an eye-catching video promoting equality which was spread through social media all around the EU. The activities were held in Morocco, Marrakesh. As the experience of hosting organization " Euromed eve moroc" was really big, we were able to give newcomers in Erasmus+ the best practice of good YE with outdoor education (decision about venue was made together). We were 6 partners (44 participants).
