Objectives

MENOS is an organization specialized in the mediation process to accompany the management of visible conflicts, but also work on prevention with a varied public. We intervene with all types of public with qualified specialists and experts in this field. Today conflicts are part of our daily life and could in fact represent an opportunity to understand one's limits and potential, leading to the personal development of each and everyone. On the other hand, if not duly recognized and taken into consideration, violence can degenerate, exhaust our energies and lead to fights. This is where we intervene in conjunction with local institutions. With all the partners of this project, we have worked on this theme because it is never obvious for the youth workers who intervene in the field. With all the partners, we believe that it is essential to help people understand their internal conflicts (emotions, ethics, ways of dealing with violence), to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses and to find the best practices to manage and express interpersonal situations. And we see every day how fear and ignorance permeate our societies as people become more individualistic building "walls" between cultures, neighborhoods and even families. This polarization has led citizens to amplify stereotypes, giving rise to intercultural hatred and reverberating in a trivialization of hateful and racist language in the street as well as in the media and social networks, in verbal violence sometimes leading to physical violence. With this training project, we wanted to counter these processes, helping participants to deconstruct prejudices and promote values of tolerance and inclusion. We offered them the space to consider the real contribution they could make as agents of change towards a non-violent world. "Youth Work and Nonviolent Communication in our Activities" was a training for youth leaders from partner organizations who wanted to develop skills in nonviolent communication to transfer to their work with disadvantaged youth.
