Objectives

The project « Education on Migration: Empowering Mobile Youth » is led by ten organisations wishing to assemble youth workers involved in education for migration. These educators, with their wealth of different experiences through their varied missions around various European territories, will exchange ideas, develop training and collaboratively write a report on education which details citizenship and solidarity on migration. By widely disseminating this report within and between numerous networks, youth work will improve in Europe. Through supporting the education of young migrants and raising young people’s awareness on migration issues, these professionals have been assisting with the integration of young people, particularly migrants, into society. Education on migration is, in one sense, the act of providing educational and social support (such as literacy, training, occupational integration, and culture) to young migrants (namely, refugees and asylum seekers). However, it is also education about what migration is, as well as, citizenship, solidarity and social involvement. When combined, these two educational initiatives empower young people to be actively involved in building a more just, unified, inclusive and multicultural society. The main objective of the project is to strengthen youth workers from France, Belgium, Spain and Cyprus, who are involved in social and educational support, raising awareness, and coordinating educational projects and international partnerships. It is realised by offering a space for these educators to congregate, in order to have discussions where they can reflect on their experiences and exchange their professional practices. Firstly, they will be trained in education for citizenship and solidarity (ECS), including the principles, challenges, and active participatory methodologies, following the framework of non-formal education and innovative teaching methods. They will also consider issues specific to educating young migrants (examples include multiculturalism, individual and collective integration). They will be able to improve their skills in mobilisation and awareness- raising (utilising tools promoting engagement, digital tools, and tools designed for public forums), as it relates to migration (international solidarity, human rights, multiculturalism, etc.). In the end, the group will compile a joint report on education for citizenship and solidarity on migration. This project will train and connect youth workers involved in complementary activities, thereby improving their impact on young people, and furthermore, on local communities and public authorities. In compliance with the Erasmus+ objectives, the project is committed to the empowerment of young people in building a multicultural democratic society.
