Objectives

The idea of the My Green World project came as a result of the identification by our volunteers of concrete problems related to the protection of the environment, typical for the area in which it took place. Here are some examples for a better understanding of the context: -Lack of basic education in the population regarding selective recycling and waste storage; -Pollution of the environment by throwing bags and plastic containers; -Abandonment or storage in precarious conditions of waste with destructive potential against nature (batteries, refrigerators and old TVs, varnishes and paints, etc.); -Lack of coordination between local authorities and civil society for the creation of an action plan for environmental protection; -Lack of examples of actions taken by civil society to reduce pollution. Drawing on the spirit of active European citizenship, My Green World emphasized the importance of good practice in raising awareness of the need for environmental protection in rural areas with the help of young participants who created an interactive campaign through non-formal methods and launched concrete actions to reduce the negative impact of man on the local environment. At the same time, a relationship was established between the participants in the exchange, the locals from the areas where the actions were started and the communities where more actions, physical and virtual, were performed. The objectives thus stated correspond to the initial ones and were achieved through coherent planning in all phases of the project, as following: -Development of the ecological spirit at the level of the group of 34 persons (23 young people, 11 group leaders), taking as inspiration the concept of European citizenship (with emphasis on solidarity between people, implementation of ideas beneficial to society, care for the environment), and ease of exchange of ideas, opinions and experiences for discovering good practices in the field; -The group of young people, during the 11 days of activities, developed mutual understanding, tolerance and enhanced their team work skills. They were taught various methods of non-formal education and also were able to successfully design, organize and get feedback for their own workshop related to the topic; a total of 6 such workshops were performed (2 for each country); -The young people, with assistance from team leaders and their organizations, created 3 promotional clips to raise awareness about nature protection in general and the unique eco-system of Reunion island in particular, and the necessity for taking action to protect it. And even more video materials were created and distributed by members of the group, on their own. -During the activities in Reunion, the group had an impact on the local environment, managing two events meant to promote care for the natural environment: the visit to Cilaos and Bras Sec (understanding unique flora, fauna and tree-planting), the greening at Mare et Joseph picnic area. Furtermore, through the study visit in St. Gilles and the free time spent on the island, all participants were able to understand the local people’s mentality better and to learn from them. -The project promoted bridging between young people from France and young people living in Reunion island, being together as one team and learning from each other. The cultural learning was great, as young people from Metropole never travelled to Reunion and the young Reunionnaise did not go to Metropole before. -The project generated a promotional campaign during the follow-up period, with various online and physical activities meant to promote ecology to the 4 communities involved -Au Careffour de l’Europe (ACDLE) organization started a network of collaboration with the other two partners, plus other entities
