Project summary

CONTEXT A 2014 study by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights found that gender and sexual violence is identified as a major problem across Europe. The study says: one in three women has experienced some form of physical and / or sexual violence since the age of 15. The struggle to end violence against women and education in sexual and emotional life is therefore an urgent European issue. Such violence is further aggravated among women who face other types of discrimination such as racism, xenophobia or discrimination based on one’s social status. It is therefore important to combine the struggles to prevent - as well as to remedy the damage already caused by - violence against women with those to prevent other forms of discrimination. In Europe, education on sexual and emotional life struggles to take place, and its limited implementation does not suffice to address the numerous questions raised (only a few hours over the course of school year, with a whole class, girls and boys unseparated). Women’s rights associations have stood for such a right, and in recent years the Internet has seen the birth of dozens of accounts on Instagram, Youtube, and Spotify that address questions of intimacy and sexuality. Young people seem to be very interested in these subjects - which are among the important factors in happiness and well-being - and want to learn more. They want to enrich the media landscape, hear other voices, other types of experiences which better represent them, which have things in common with their own stories. OBJECTIVES The project proposes new tools, based on radio and podcast for youth and youth workers to tackle issues of intimacy and sexuality. Through the proposed activities, young people develop resources to express themselves on these topics in the media (radio) and public sphere (during presentations, artistic events). By the same token, we want to encourage the emergence of content on intimacy and sexuality created by and disseminated among young people, having as common values: - equality between women, gender minorities and men -the fight against sexual and gender-based violence -the fight against discrimination, in particular racism, homophobia, and discrimination on the grounds of social status. - Understanding sexuality through dialogue based on the sharing of intimate experiences, collective discussions, personal development and the knowledge of experts will allow young people to “get their messages across” and enrich the media landscape on issues related to intimacy and sexuality. ACTIVITIES & IMPACTS We will create and test our methodologies during co-construction workshops with young people. The educational material developed will be: IO1 - Toolkit “Introduction to radio communication.” This online guide will offer activities to learn about radio communication and collectively create a radio show. It will introduce young people to digital tools linked to radio and will encourage the emergence of radio programs produced by and broadcast for young people. IO2 - Toolkit “Facilitating discussions on intimacy and sexuality through radio.” This online guide will offer activities to facilitate discussions about intimacy and sexuality on the radio. This guide aims to provide reassuring and positive spaces for discussion on these themes. Young people will express themselves more freely, exploring sensitive or taboo issues. IO3 - Toolkit “DIY: Creating podcasts that address sexuality and intimacy.” This online guide will offer activities to guide young people in creating their own podcasts on privacy and sexuality issues. IO4 - Toolkit “Creating art based on one’s podcasts.” This online guide will offer activities working with sound/radio creation to other forms of art in order to create multidisciplinary content on the issues aforementioned. At least ten collective creations will be produced. IO5 - Online platform for emotion and sexuality education through radio and art. This online training platform for youth professionals will offer training for professionals who wish to reproduce our methodology. METHODOLOGY Our methodological pillars will be: - Co-construction - Empowering youngsters for action - Learning digital and radio communication tools - Sharing experience and highlighting one’s personal journey - Intercultural approach PARTICIPANTS Our participants will comprehend between 50 and 70 young people from diverse backgrounds, as well as around twenty professionals involved in the creation of educational materials. LONG-TERM BENEFITS We hope to, in the long term: - participate in the creation of quality digital content exploring issues of intimacy and sexuality that are more representative of young people, and in particular of minorities. - participate in the creation of educational content for professionals working with youth so that they may reproduce our method

Objectives
