Objectives

The overall aim of the InTheatre project is to improve the mutual understanding among young people between the ages of 14 and 18 and their knowledge of other cultures and literary heritage, as well as to promote common European values. Consequently, expand the international network of contacts among young participants and leaders, and encourage them to participate actively in social activities and other projects. Given the current need for bridging the gap of understanding shared values, as well as the need for greater involvement of young people in the cultural activities presented in Eurostat and the New European Agenda for Culture, the specific objective of this project is to enhance the knowledge, skills and values of young people through the prism of literary cultural heritage. Creating a creative and intercultural environment, through the InTheatre project, we want to enhance international cultural relations and encourage the development of individual awareness of shared values and respect for diversity, understanding and solidarity, as well as improve knowledge about our own literary cultural heritage and the literary cultural heritage of partner countries. Through a series of activities conducted through non-formal learning methods purposefully designed in agreement with leaders and youth from partner organizations, we want to bring young people into a situation where they will be the main creators of each activity, its content and dynamics. In this way, they will develop the skills of working in a group, performing in front of a larger group of people and, accordingly, develop self-confidence and creativity. Considering that final product of the exchange is the play, over the five days of mobility young participants will gradually develop both the characters, the scenes, and ultimately the entire show, which will include the literary cultural heritage of all partner countries (through characters from literary works by renowned national authors) and common European values which will be woven throughout the whole process of the production of the play, as well as into the play itself. Those young people will therefore come up with creative scenarios, relationships and scenes to ultimately design a complete play that they will perform at the very end of their mobility. This will require a great deal of cooperation, creativity and active involvement of each individual, which is our primary purpose of this project, in order to maximize the impact on each participant and consequently encourage young participants to actively engage in other social activities. Finally, through activities and daily reflection, the goal is to improve the key competencies and skills of young participants. The project targets young people between the ages of 14 and 18 because the youth at that age are in one of their most vulnerable periods when they question both themselves and their environment. Facing a multitude of situations where young people are yet to learn which values are right and what to stand for, through this project we, hence, want to give them - through the prism of literary cultural heritage - tools for self-understanding and, accordingly, an easier understanding of others. In this way, we will encourage the development of individual awareness of common European values such as respect for diversity, understanding and solidarity. To conclude, it is of utmost importance that young people are the ones from whom the core of each activity will come, and with whose contribution the joint growth will be made.
