Objectives

The purpose of the youth exchange The MattE+r of Inclusion was to help youth realize the negative impact of discrimination and to motivate them to stop discrimination. The project also wanted to improve the cultural competences of youth and youth with fewer opportunities. The following Project objectives were achieved: - By participating in all the activities of the project, during 21 months of the project, the participants reached a better understanding what discrimination, stereotypes, prejudices and negative effects of these behaviours are. - During the project, the 32 young people from 5 countries developped the skills to work with disadvantaged groups (with focus on young people with reduced opportunities) and learned how how to use 5 and more non-formal methods that can combat discrimination - By the end of the project, the 32 participants developed a more open attitude towards those who are usually discriminated against (Roma people, homeless people, orphans), about other contries / foreigners, and reduced stereorypes and prejudice while gained motivation to engage in activities against discrimination. - 32 youth participants improved key competences using non-formal methods during 8 days of mobility and up to the end of the project This youth exchange took deeply into consideration the E+ priorities and promoted inclusion, diversity, equality and non-discrimination in the youth sector. Some of the major activities of this youth exchange were: - fight discrimination using non-formal education - increase motivation and self-esteem of participants - develop the ability of young people to communicate in English - support the integration of youth with fewer opportunities Institute of Youth Power is an NGO that makes activities and projects for young people and wants to include and help young people with reduced opportunities. Working with young people we realized that there can be prejudices towards young people with reduced opportunities and from other countries, and this type of mentality can limit the work and impact of our activities and projects. Other NGOs we collaborate with face similar problems about stereotypes and prejudice so we decided to conduct an online survey on a poll of 64 young people from all partner organizations and 2 focus groups which showed that young people have strong, sometimes negative views of disadvantaged groups even if they never worked with such groups. These results are in line with Eurobarometer 437: discrimination in 2015, the problem is very present throughout Europe. Furthermore, in the EU people believe that the most widespread form of discrimination is based on ethnic origin (64%), sexual orientation (58%), religion (50%) and disability (50%). In relevance to the youth exchange, each country has a different rate of discrimination: Spain 66%, Romania 40%, Latvia, 27%, Lithuania 23%, Croatia 42% (https://ec.europa.eu/commfrontoffice/publicopinion/archives/ebs/ebs_296_sum_en.pdf), but all impact of discrimination is equally bad and awarness should be raised about those issues. This youth exchange has the purpose to equip young people with awareness, knowledge, skills and attitudes to be the change they want to see and build together a more inclusive society, meet different culutures as well as, promote diversity, equality and non-discrimination in the youth sector.
