In many countries disposable objects and plastic belongs to a habbit. Unfortunately, such a habit and the "plastic culture" is polluting the earth. Most plastics are made from petroleum or natural gas, which belongs to nonrenewable resources. They are extracted and processed using energy-intensive techniques that destroy our fragile ecosystem. The fracking method is a disaster in itself, which is forbidden in Germany and many other states. The manufacture of plastic, as well as its destruction by incineration, pollutes air, land and water an exposes workers to toxic chemicals, including carcinogens. Moreover, our oceans are full of rubbish, most of them are composed by single use items and in particular by plastic and there are even rubbish oceans (the sadly famous garbage patchs) in different parts of the oceans and several streams. Nyíregyházi Diákpolgármesteri Iroda, in cooperation with the partners involved, is planning to implement this Youth Exchange. We decided to focus in this topic for several reasons, most of them are in commons with the partners'need: plastic and single use items are a huge problem in our local communities and, due the collaps of the social and educational system, youngs do not care about this issue and they see plastic as "something of natural in our life". We want to carry out this project to educate and raise awareness of young people living in our communities about the environmental problems (in this case, reduce single use items, plastic waste/recycling and improve the attitude to reuse objects) that our world is facing nowadays by organizing this international project, local actions, campaigns in participating countries. The important issue that we will address during this project is the bad impact of the disposable products and the plastic on environment and in our society. By debates and giving knowledge and different tools to our participants we will motivate them to think about and take actions to stop harmful impact of plastic and disposable obects. The objectives are: - raise awareness in our local communities about the consequence of excessive plastic use and single-use items; - sensitize young people to the culture of "3R": recycle, reduce, reuse; - to empower young people and young leaders to advocate and develop local activities (even following the non formal Learning process) for living in healthy environment without producing harmful materials for the society or, at least, use them carefully. - To train participants to become multiplicators and environmental aware in partner countries (awareeven in the recycling process); - To sensitize local political institutions to greater involvement, control and prevention of the territory also paying attention to recycling and ecological awareness campaigns (and to support young people to enter into dialogue with local authorities and participate in the decision making processes); - To bring young people closer to greater social participation in their communities; - To increase participants' intercultural dimension and "eco-friendly" attitude; - To strengthen the network of which Nyíregyházi Diákpolgármesteri Iroda is part, in the ecology/environmental sector; - To enhance non-formal learning and youthpass key competences.
