Objectives

The aim of the project was to equip the youth workers of the partner organisations with the knowledge relevant to their work, primarily to give them first-hand experience in the organisation and delivery of Live Action Role-Play (LARP) as a tool for non-formal education. LARP is an excellent way to engage people of all genders and ages in a common activity where they can develop their skills in a fun, creative and artistic way. The central theme of the project was leadership skills, and the programme elements were based around this theme: using LARP to help participants develop their leadership skills, knowledge and attitudes, and then to pass on these leadership skills to their target groups, organising and delivering LARP sessions where they have room to develop. The objectives also included developing the key competences of the participants, in line with the priorities of the European Union, and improving their social skills in an open, inclusive, international and multicultural environment and context. To achieve this, we tried to structure the different programme elements in a way that allowed for group work, where participants could work together in mixed, international groups, and also emphasised the allocation of rooms to participants, so that different nationalities could be brought together in them. We also emphasised the importance of social inclusion, increasing participants' engagement in their learning and helping them to become more aware of their own learning journey by holding debriefing sessions at the end of each programme element, allowing participants to report on their personal experiences and learning outcomes. Each day was concluded with a reflection session, also in small groups, where participants could report on their experiences, insights, opinions and suggestions for the day. The aim of the project at the organisational level was, on the one hand, to build the capacity of the partners by gaining youth workers skilled in LARP as a non-formal method, able to organise and run such an event and make it relevant to their target audience, and also to make these youth workers well versed in the theories of leadership skills and to experience first-hand the depth of the role of a leader. On the other hand, the project also aimed to expand the network of the partner organisations by involving them in an international cooperation, disseminating its results as part of the project visibility and by establishing personal and professional contacts of their youth workers across the EU.
