Objectives

The main objectives of the 'Young Artisans' project were to rediscover art and culture through the handicrafts of the two municipalities, Italian and Slovakian, and to focus attention on young people and the problems that affected them. The foundations of the project were laid in two different and distant towns, Sestu, a small Sardinian municipality near Cagliari, and Banská Bystrica, a Slovakian municipality. Both were known for their cultural and artistic traditions and local handicrafts. The two associations involved in the project, I Nuraghi and SA.E.S.C.O, were interested not only in enhancing the local folk, but also in promoting handicrafts and supporting young people in shaping their future. In the Italian municipality of Sestu, with its strong cultural tradition and handicrafts such as wrought iron, copper and woven baskets, the aim was to enhance and preserve these traditions. Similarly, in Banská Bystrica, with its tradition of handicrafts such as fujara and ringers' bells, the aim was to preserve and promote local handicrafts. Young people were at the centre of the project, considering the economic, social, geographical and employment challenges that many of them faced. Many young people were forced to abandon their studies and seek better opportunities elsewhere, while others were interested in local arts and crafts but had difficulty finding a way to pursue this passion. The objectives of the project included: Rediscovering handicrafts as a means of building a better future and preserving local traditions. To learn about and use technological tools, including social media, to promote handicrafts. Develop problem-solving skills. Learn to manage and plan work steps. Improve language skills, both in the mother tongue and in English. Promote international cooperation through collaboration with young people from other countries. To include young people with fewer opportunities. Promote active citizenship among young people. To increase participants' self-esteem. To foster interculturality through interaction between young people of different nationalities. The project aimed to provide young people with the necessary skills to thrive in the handicraft sector, promote local culture and face the challenges they encountered in their daily lives.
