Objectives

The desire to carry out the project “Be Mindful, be the Change” arose during an Erasmus+ Training Course in Romania in February 2020, where 5 youth workers from 5 different countries (Spain, Italy, Poland, Turkey and Lithuania) had the chance to share some thoughts about the trends of self awareness knowledge in young people in their countries. What emerged highlighted a crucial similarity: even if recently these countries have been witnessing a rising attention towards well being related themes, the spread of new practises of self awareness seems confined to a few people's disposal and YP don’t seem to be the final recipients of those. Based on our internal and external researches, we carried out a problem tree with the objective of identifying the main causes and sub-causes that prevent YP from being self aware. 1) Young people lack of knowledge about SA because the topic is recent and not properly promoted and recognized in school, family and social life. Also, YP do not know where to find helpful tools for practicing. 2) Young people do not practice SA in their daily life because they don't know how to, courses are not financially accessible and a lot of trainers usually approach the topic in a way that it is not tailor-made for YP. 3) Young people find the topic difficult to approach and not as a priority due to the fear of change and of stepping out their comfort zoneand the will to get always quick results and not sustainable ones. In general, we realised that young people have needs related to SA that are not yet met and that are now crucial to be addressed in our society. Our project bridged this gap. Thanks to the problem tree, we defined the main goal of our project; we wanted to implement this project A) to boost young people self awareness by offering them what they need in order to familiarize with this topic; we believe that by showing young people how little effort is required to them in their lives in order to start developing a better sense of self understanding, we will address the problem of the lack of SA among YP. We gathered 30 young people from Spain, Italy, Poland, and Turkey (Lithuania partner dropped out finally) to address their needs about SA. The project had the following as objectives: - improve young people’s knowledge about what SA is and raise their awareness about this topic. - give young people the chance to practice at least 5 tools that will help them deepen their self knowledge and that they can implement in their lives whenever they feel the necessity. - show young people how crucial is to have the right mindset while dealing with self discovery and their inner world and how unnecessary is to set unrealistic and unsustainable goals.
