Objectives

The youth exchange “Is Sustainability a new Fashion Trend?” took place in Cefalu, Italy 20-27 May 2022. It included 5 countries and participants from Romania, Lithuania, Poland, Italy and Bulgaria. The project was concerned on discussions and exchanges on topics, which were related with the fashion trends amongst the youth, the chronologically followed processes of fashion industry development and many more interactive topics which united participants in their way of thinking and creating. The main themes of the youth exchange that we wanted to implement were fashion, intercultural fashion and differences between fashion in history and nowadays, the process of the fashion developing with the focus on countries participating in the program. Accept that we touched on the topic of design (cloth, interior design, footwear, etc.), intercultural communication, and creativity. The project also created awareness around clothing and recycling: where do clothes come from? Where do they end up once we do not use them anymore, etc. The fashion industry has a clear opportunity to act differently, pursuing profit and growth while also creating new value for society and therefore for the world economy. It comes with an urgent need to place environmental, social, and ethical improvements on management's agenda. The goal of sustainable fashion is to increase the value of local production and products, to prolong the lifecycle of materials, to increase the value of timeless garments, to reduce the amount of waste, and to reduce the harm to the environment. It aims to educate people to practice environmentally friendly consumption by promoting the "green consumer”.
