Objectives

In 2008, the Russian-Georgian war had a huge humanitarian impact on civilians. The conflict over South Ossetia posed a serious threat to the self-sufficiency of the region, especially of the youth. In order to foster inclusion through youth work, our diverse consortium acted together and implemented "Blue Hearts". The goal was reached by: - exchanging good practices of IDP/refugee inclusion between partner organizations; - raising awareness regarding the IDP/refugee status, reaching out to young people with fewer opportunities, and breaking stereotypes; - promoting integrational learning and creating new possibilities for IDPs/refugees to learn together and benefit from each other’s knowledge; - sharing the knowledge and experience regarding the challenges that IDPs/refugees face in partner countries, including how the local authorities are supporting and improving their living conditions. - last but not least, raising awareness of the local community and newcomers about the opportunities offered by Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps. Unfortunately, it is still difficult to have an IDP/refugee status in Georgia as civil society is not developed properly. The host communities still see the IDPs as refugees, thus, negative opinion about the IDPs is still circulating in society. It is one of the main challenges not only for Georgia but also for Ukraine, Armenia, Turkey, Poland, and Lithuania. We believe that the collaboration of young people who are acting together with a common goal, can break these stereotypes, and empower youth to improve their self-esteem, social inclusion, and integration into local communities. The second objective of the project was related to the European dimension - to raise awareness of the success of the European Union Monitoring Mission (EUMM) - a peacekeeping monitoring mission. Therefore, we believe that these objectives have been achieved by the project, as evidenced by the evaluation conducted at the end of the project.
