In 2010 the European Commission proposed a 10-year strategy called Europe 2020 for the advancement of the economy of the EU which is supposed to be "smart, sustainable, inclusive growth". In 2007, the European Council adopted new environmental targets, including - To reduce emissions of greenhouse gases by 20% by 2020 taking 1990 emissions as the reference. - To increase energy efficiency to save 20% of EU energy consumption by 2020. - To reach 20% of renewable energy in the total energy consumption in the EU by 2020. - To reach 10% of biofuels in the total consumption of vehicles by 2020. In previous years 2020 seemed far but it's here and it's time to see was it correct to worry about the planet. Youth work, as a facilitator between good ideas and young people, is spreading ideas of how to be eco-friendly, how to reuse, reduce and recycle. But still many people accept nature protection and resource-saving as a business of ecoactivists, not themselves. As youth workers taking part in different projects, we've noticed that many projects could be more eco-friendly. So, this project was for youth workers/leaders, who are organizing Erasmus+ and other projects, to make them more environmental-friendly. Food, energy, water, stationery, Light Bulbs, garbage separation, and detergents are the visible part of the iceberg. There is a big number of youth projects implemented each year. According to Erasmus+ annual report of 2017 there was implemented 1158 projects under the KA1 - Mobility of youth workers. We can imagine what a big impact on the ecology the youth projects can have taking into account that many examples. Considering all the above-mentioned facts and the potential of non-formal education in spreading the idea of sustainability, FSL and WIYU came to the idea to create a project about the importance of environmental protection and connections between suitability and youth work. We also considered the sustainability strategies of the EU. Youth workers from 11 Program and Partner countries worked hard to learn how to promote ecological thinking among youth workers and organisations from different countries. The aim of the project was to promote eco-friendly behavior among organizers of local and international youth activities in order to make projects less polluting, organic, energy-saving and responsible. In accordance with the abovementioned we have set the objectives for the project: - To empower youth workers and youth leaders with the skills of making projects more sustainable and environmentally responsible; - To create an educational brochure for youth project organisers with the practical recommendations to make activities and facilities more eco-friendly; - To enhance the number of environmental projects organized by partner organisations; - To create educational tools for youth workers, that they can use during the youth projects; -To emphasis the value of environment-friendliness of the EU projects and specifically the Erasmus+. The specific objectives pursued by the Erasmus+ in the field of youth that is in direct link with our project idea are the following: - Support learners in the acquisition of learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and competences) with a view to improving their personal development, their involvement as considerate and active citizens in society and their employability in the European labour market and beyond; - support the professional development of those who work in education, training and youth with a view to innovating and improving the quality of teaching, training and youth work across Europe; - raise participants' awareness and understanding of other cultures and countries, offering them the opportunity to build networks of international contacts, to actively participate in society and develop a sense of European citizenship and identity; - increase the capacities, attractiveness and international dimension of organizations active in the education, training and youth fields so that they are able to offer activities and programs that better respond to the needs of individuals, within and outside Europe.
