Objectives

The idea for the TC "DIGI-TOOL-20" came out because the Covid-19 pandemic affected all of us as youth workers and organisations by stopping us from facilitating our activities with a physical presence in the youth sector and youth work. The youth work demands new ways and methods which ask for specific digital skills that the youth workers haven't developed yet at the required level. It is clear that for all of us as people on one hand and youth workers on the other, it's really important to possess digital skills that will help us work, learn and/or pass the knowledge on distance. With this project, we wanted to provide the youth workers with the knowledge of using new digital tools and platforms, so they can use them easily in times when it's impossible to organise events and workshops and to organise them online. Another important dimension was exploring the learning platforms and learning possibilities from a distance so the educational and integrative process of non-formal education doesn't stop. The young people are sick and tired of the same Zoom or Teams lessons. The aim of this project was to raise awareness of ICT, digital tools, and the benefits of them and good education practices for personal and professional development of youth workers, thus improving the quality of youth work. We wanted to give the youth workers possibilities to compare practices from other countries in Europe, to share the benefits of using the new digital tools first-hand and motivate the youth workers to implement them in their everyday activities with youngsters. We wanted to also tackle issues we encounter from previous experiences, like the lack of systematised information about learning and development possibilities, knowledge and formal education, and lack of motivation among youngsters. The objectives of this MYW were: - to educate the youth workers on how to use digital platforms - to empower youth workers to develop their digital skills thus improving the capacities - to present and explore popular applications and digital tools - to stimulate creativity and productivity of the youth workers, and indirectly, of young people - to foster digital literacy and employability by developing skills and competencies according to the “New skills for new jobs” EU flagship initiative and to the “European framework for key competencies for lifelong learning” - to improve the quality of future youth work. We think that with this project we'd give our contribution to the improvement of the current situation with the facilitation during the Covid-19 pandemic, youth demotivation, lack of innovative methods in youth work and presenting the whole learning-by-doing experience. The issues we are seeking to address through this project were: insufficient information about digital tools, new methods, and lack of motivation for active participation. According to the priorities of the Macedonian National Agency for European educational programmes and mobility, education and learning and promotion of European youth programmes and improving capacities of youth organisations were the first priorities for the year 2020. The needs for this type of project were: - exploring the new concept of learning from a distance and putting it to good use in times like these - lack of usage of new digital tools and methods in youth work - high rate of youth demotivation - lack of creative and critical thinking among young people in Europe - lack of awareness about the current needs of the youth work We were aware of these issues from personal experiences, and the long-term research done by us and our partners and we realised that there's a need for this kind of project.
