Our environment is constantly changing. There is no denying that. However, as our environment changes, so does the need to become increasingly aware of the problems that surround it. Our planet is poised on the brink of a severe environmental crisis. We are in a state of planetary emergency, with environmental problems piling up high around us. Unless we address the various issues prudently and seriously we are surely doomed for disaster. Current environmental problems require urgent attention. With this project, we aimed to head towards a change in European youth’s behavior and habits in order to reach a sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle. To reach the key aim of the project mentioned above, the following objectives have been set: 1) to increase youth’s awareness about the environmental problems in the world; 2) to identify the most common negative outcomes of people’s habits concerning the environment, as well as find ways to tackle them; 3) to promote sustainable behavior by getting closer to nature and the things it offers; 4) to encourage youth’s proactive approach towards green initiatives, and 5) to share practices of eco-friendly lifestyle among youth and increase collaboration between Europe and Overseas territories. While achieving the project’s objectives, youth-development goals were also achieved. Namely, the project helped the participants increase their social responsibility towards environmental safeguard; involved the youth in discussions and decision making in an international environment regarding environmental friendly actions; kept the youth active and helped them learn how to put ideas into actions; enhanced their social skills and multilingualism, as well as stimulated their cultural exchange. In general, with this project, we aimed to take the good practices of sustainable development of Sint Maarten and apply it to the countries that really need a change to be more environmentally friendly (such as Italy, Lithuania, and Malta). Furthermore, the project aimed to raise awareness on the current environmental problems in the world to the public. This way, youth would be more motivated to tackle the disturbing scenarios that we can expect. Thus, the project included active result dissemination activities as one of its main goals.
