Both JEF Malta and EYM Bulgaria have always had the principal aim to promote a positive narrative for youth-led European integration and push the views of youths in policy making. Youth activism and participation in the democratic process is at the core of our beliefs. However, before the successful implementation of this project, these goals were hindered by our personal competencies and organisational capacities. Indeed, the question of "how should we be effective and active youths/NGOs?" was never something taught in formal education, but requires a wide range of skills and a good understanding of National/European contexts, especially in today's fraught socio-political reality. Therefore, in a nutshell the implementation of the project aimed at expediting a learning journey to answer the abovementioned question. This project aimed to achieve a structured process of knowledge sharing, from the more experienced youths to those who were just starting their journey in activism, and between youths with different areas of expertise. This exchange of knowledge by its nature was projected to be youth led, and use hands-on methodologies where we gave meaning to what we learned through hands on practice. This process was transnational, and thus also had aim of encouraging the added value of the formal and informal exchange of good practices beyond each organisation’s members’ bubble of knowledge. Objectives Achieved: 1. Held 2 exchanges in Malta and Bulgaria empowering 45 youths (including the 5 group leaders, who were also youths) with the non-formal personal skills and knowledge needed for active engagement in society. This was done by ensuring an in-depth, holistic and extensive learned experience. 2. Gave the opportunity to 45 youths to develop a concrete sense of European Citizenship and Identity, both at an analytical and personal level: youths were able to make friends and built European-level Activist Networks, increased their understanding of other cultures, engaged in critical discussions about European Affairs & Integration, and participate in simulations of European institutions. 3. Built the capacity of 2 active European Youth NGOs, through the mutual exchange of best practices, sharing of ideas and learning from each other, allowing for innovation and attracting more youths. A stronger link between JEF Malta and EYM Bulgaria increased our capacity to operate not only at a Local and National level, but also at a European level.
