The Youth Exchange EcoMission gathered 29 participants from the Netherlands, Georgia, Reunion (France), and Moldova aged 16-30 on 12/09/2022-19/09/2022 for the 8-day Youth Exchange in Barchem, Netherlands. The project aimed at involving young people in the exploration of fast fashion’s negative impact on the environment, importance of following a sustainable lifestyle, and engaging them as active community members. To each these ends, the project objectives were: 1. To raise awareness about the environmental footprint and fast fashion; 2. To help the young people identify and avoid/reduce the use of fast fashion items; 3. To help young people explore the minimalism and eco-friendlier life and boost their self-esteem through acknowledging their contribution to environmental protection; 4. To raise awareness about the Erasmus+ programme; 5. To promote responsible fashion choices in all participating countries by supporting young people's initiatives. The project was planned and implemented by young people who lack employment opportunities, face social exclusion, geographical, and educational barriers, representing four countries and geographically diverse areas. Through the implementation of this project, the youngsters improved their knowledge about the impact of fast fashion on the environment and how to reduce it, acquired new skills and competences for an environmentally friendly lifestyle by gaining new knowledge and practical experience, developed project ideas, and improved their intercultural awareness and communication skills. The project empowered the participating young people, and the youth communities they represent, through direct and indirect impacts, as well as by raising awareness about the Erasmus+ programme and the opportunities it offers to young people. All in all, the project led to better engagement of young people and positive cooperation in intercultural contexts. The project methodology was based on non-formal learning tools, promoting also informal learning opportunities during the intercultural evenings that favored the learning of new languages, cultures, and issues young people faced in each country.
