In multicultural societies it is important to promote new methodologies that enrich empathy, respect, self-awareness, collaboration, social engagement and international mindfulness. Social emotional learning (SEL) has the potential to be one of those methodologies, as it is one of the most effective forms of building emotionally intelligent societies. Using this method in non-formal education can play an important role in developing intercultural communication and respect towards each other. This is exactly what we wanted to achieve by training youth workers who can support youth to appreciate their own self-worth and of other's worth in their communities. For the moment, in most countries social emotional learning techniques are not seen as essential in the full development of the potentials of youth. Most common approach towards education is dogmatic, therefore in most countries SEL methods are not even known. Organizations working in the youth field have a lack of knowledge about social and emotional learning and lack of access to methods and tools for developing these emotional competences. Therefore this project offered partner organisations the opportunity to learn about the concept of SEL and incorporate it in their non-formal educational projects, in order to target emotional management and self-awareness of young people. During this training course, youth leaders, youth workers and NGO workers learned methods and specific techniques, enabling them to train youth to be individuals with various social-emotional skills like emotion regulation, self-management, communication, empathy, intercultural awareness, leadership and responsible decision-making. These social-emotional learning methods promote mindfulness and, therefore, have positive effects on a person's mental health. Objectives of our project were: -To increase youth workers' awareness, knowledge, and skills regarding social-emotional learning; -To promote collaboration between youth workers and youth organizations to address the social emotional learning competency development of youth in their communities; -To enhance knowledge of educational practices that promote social-emotional learning competency development; -To provide tools and resources to youth workers to help improve emotional intelligence of young people; -To develop a network of like-minded individuals and organizations ready to cooperate on future projects related to nonformal education and SEL; -To develop a concrete plan for follow-up projects and local activities focusing on emotional intelligence and intercultural learning. This project aimed to contribute to more socially inclusive and sustainable societies, promoting solidarity and respect, and seeking the elimination of violence and conflict between cultures or within the same culture. In order to develop and strengthen the aforementioned cognitive, emotional and behavioural skills, various social and emotional learning programs can be developed through youth work. Using the techniques introduced at the training course, participants are now able to create a safe and comfortable learning environment in their communities. Last but not least, our project aimed to encourage the improvement in youth work by fostering exchange of good practices and developing new tools in cooperation with NGOs from different countries (including equally both Programme countries and Partner Countries). During the training participants had the opportunity to cooperate and work on future projects together.
