We wanted to organize a Training Course on Outdoor Education in order to improve our capacities to use this approach to promote social inclusion amongst marginalized and disadvantaged young people with whom we are working. Especially we were motivated by the need to use outdoor education as a resource to continue implementing non-formal education opportunities in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. With knowledge of Outdoor Education methods, our members could transform a forest, field, playground, or public park into an engaging learning environment. The aims of the project were: – to increase our organizations' capacities to use Outdoor Education as a tool for promoting social inclusion – to promote Outdoor Education as an effective learning tool to youth workers, organizations, and decision-makers beyond the partnership. The project objectives were: – To provide participants with the foundations of the principles of Outdoor Education (Kolb cycle; action, reflect transfer, frontloading, and feedback sessions) – To teach participants simple outdoor games with concrete learning goals that can be tailored to different target groups – To provide the experience of a multiday outdoor expedition, improve teamwork and outdoor competencies, and show how the expedition can be used to create an extended learning environment – To create an environment of peer learning where youth workers from program countries can exchange best practice – To facilitate the personal development of participants by enabling them to step outside their comfort zone and explore ways of learning how to learn. – To understand the barriers to participation in Outdoor Education programs faced by certain groups and strategies for removing them – To increase the capacities of the international dimension of the partners' youth work and to lay the foundations – in terms of knowledge, expertise, and international networks – for organizing further follow-up projects, such as international youth exchanges with outdoor educational elements, which promote social integration and inclusion. – To provide a half-day open event with outdoor education workshops for teachers and pupils of the local primary school in Höydal
