Objectives

In the typical Western education system, results indicated that “since 1990, even as IQ scores have risen, creative thinking scores have significantly decreased. Traditional education does not sufficiently value innovative and entrepreneurial thinking – our system even dumbs down the creative genius that we were born with, according to a test developed by NASA (http://www.nesacenter.org/uploaded/conferences/SEC/2013/handouts/Kim_Creativity-Crisis_CRJ2011.pdf). The older we get, there is a less creative genius inside us as researches concluded and the scale of this drop is enormous. When we compare the results of 5 years old children with the results of adults the number is 96% (meaning: adults are 96% less “genius scores” in NASA creativity test than 5 y.o). George Land (the lead researcher) concludes that non-creative behaviour is learned, other words that we unlearn creative behaviours through life. This issue is also tackled by sir Ken Robinson in his famous TED talk “Do schools kill creativity?”. Creativity has been indicated in the “4Cs” list of 21st-century skills, which is the list of 4 most important skills: critical thinking (also strongly linked with creative thinking, communication, collaboration and creativity)(NEA: http://www.nea.org/tools/52217.htm ) to succeed at school and the workplace. The main aim of our project is to increase and sustain creative potential of youth associated around 8 participating organisations by equipping youth workers coming from these countries with competencies of designing engaging activities fostering creativity and designing creative environments. We plan to reach this aim by following objectives: - To offer the space for participants to exchange their experience, highlighting challenges in youth work - To provide participants with different ways and tools to explore and work on own creativity and the knowledge of usage of those tools in their working contexts with youth - To create tangible fostering creativity tool for working with youth (printable deck of cards in digital form) - To offer the space for participants to discover own creative potential and exchange practices and experiences with their peers from other countries as an inspiration for improving their activities - To promote creative learning and teaching through produced materials (creativity journals, creativity cards, publication and workshops in 8 countries) - To develop and implement 8 creative local workshops for youngsters - To work on the habit of practising creativity daily (through one-month creativity challenge) - To promote creativity as a crucial skill in the context of the modern job market and employability - To create the culture that fosters creativity in 8 participating organisations and promote it out of these organisations.
