The concept of the "Visual Story Lab" project was created as a result of meetings and discussions between young people who are connected with the film industry. The initiative group are young filmmakers - mainly aspiring screenwriters - who met during the HOMMAGE A KIEŚLOWSKI film festival in Sokołowsko, an event with the reputation and trust of Krzysztof Kieślowski's friends and associates, which is not only a celebration of the work of this outstanding artist, but also a review of the latest trends in young European cinema. Every year HOMMAGE A KIEŚLOWSKI attracts a large group of young people from various European countries. During the event, there are organized workshops, training sessions and meetings of young, beginner filmmakers. Young people from the initiative group took part in meetings dedicated to Krzysztof Kieślowski's screenwriting work. These meetings became an impulse for further discussions, during young people interested in film scripting defined the basic problems hindering the development of their own creative workshop, establishing international artistic cooperation, exchange of experience with colleagues from other European countries, and thus also the implementation of international aspirations related to the development of their own creative passions. The youth specified two main problems related to their own international creative development: - the European film market is dominated by large Hollywood studios, and the creative exchange between individual European countries is too small, - young film writers' knowledge of the possibilities of international cooperation and European mechanisms to support their artistic development is negligible, there are also no educational centers that can offer this type of educational offer. The youth clearly stated that the educational task related to the development of international cooperation between aspiring film scriptwriters from Europe must be completed by another structure, e.g. a non-formal education program, the aim of which will be to exchange experiences that will allow them to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in their future creative development on the European film market. The youth, inspired by international film projects initiated in Sokołowsko in 2019, decided to organize a unique international youth exchange dedicated to issues in the field of film scripting. The project will be based on the peer education of young beginner artists, animating the exchange of experiences and developing cooperation between young debutants from individual European countries. When planning their venture, young people decided to focus on searching for modern and pioneering ways of exchanging knowledge and experience regarding film scriptwriting and analyzing the chances and opportunities offered by European cinematography in the context of support and development of young film talent. They stated that only creating an initiative that is a European platform for cooperation between young screenwriters can become a real development space, giving them a driving force and allowing them to go beyond the limits associated with the functioning of individual national cinematographies. Young people interested in future development in the difficult profession of a film scriptwriter see their individual future, but also the future of European cinema in transnational activities implemented as part of European cooperation. Each participant, by sharing their experience and knowledge, will contribute to enriching the multicultural character of the project. The grassroots creation of an initiative by young, aspiring screenwriters enabling them to improve their passion will become a real impulse for development for young European cinema. The program planned under the project will allow young people not only to develop creative skills, but also to gain practical experience and information on the principles of international sales of film scripts, channels to reach film producers in individual countries, and production criteria determining the potential success of film in European circulation. The participants' intention is that this project will contribute not only to the development of their knowledge and experience in the field of film scripting, but also to the development of artistic passion and motivation as well as to increase intercultural awareness and strengthen the European dialogue of young filmmakers. The project will enable them to navigate efficiently on the European market and will allow them to undertake well-thought-out artistic cooperation - thus in line with the objectives of the educational mobility of the ERASMUS + program.
