This project idea was developed during a previous successful Youth Exchange, in collaboration with participants from different countries and cultures. The participants noticed that their generation (people aged 16-24) spend an adequate time on their phone, checking social media. They made a survey among themselves to see how much time they spend on their phone, and how often they check it without any particular reason. After the discussion with the participants of the previous Youth Exchange, the participants came up with an idea of a project that focus on the Problematic Use of the Internet. The volunteers with the help of our youth workers (5 person each from country: HU, SK, CZ and PT) started to implement to main idea. After identifying common need and relevance, we conducted a survey. Together we designed survey template which was later tailored to each community and its need. The results clearly indicated a huge need of reducing time pointlessly spend on social media not only among young people but also among youth workers and volunteers. Goal of the project was to change attitudes on the use of social media and decrease the amount of time spent on it of 60 participants from PT, SK, HU, CZ by developing their social skills, namely their real-time interaction and exploring new methods how to use social media and technologies (Digital Minimalism) as well as alternatives to spend their leisure time. The objectives we had reached were to expand soft skills such as communication, critical thinking and creativity of 60 participants. We introduced alternatives, cost-free options and active ways how to spend their leisure time alone as well as in groups. Moreover, we introduced them to the methodology of Digital Minimalism and explored ideas on the use of technologies and social media in a beneficial way, both at a personal and professional level.
