Through the ‘Soul-Rooted Mentoring’ project we aimed at finding solutions to the following problems and needs that we have discovered in working with young people: -Increasing cases of mental pathologies among young people. -The challenges the workers are facing while approaching people with mental disabilities. Problems identified: In a 2019 research of Mental Health Europe, it was clear that 1 in 5 adolescents in Europe are affected by at least one psychological problem each year. Depression is one of the leading causes of disability and suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29 year olds. Moreover, the European Office of the World Health Organization foresaw that the quarantine will impact people with elevated rates of stress or anxiety, loneliness, depression, harmful alcohol and drug use, and self-harm or suicidal behavior. A paper under the title The Effect of COVID-19 on Youth Mental Health” showcases that COVID-19 has an immense influence on youth mental health, especially for youth coming from a disadvantaged background. Through the implementation of this project we wanted to address these learning needs of the youth workers from the project partners’s partnership. We will mention some of them: - new methodology of empowering the mental health of young people - new approaches in building resilience, the ability to deal with the ups and downs of life - new methodology of working for social inclusion - equipping disadvantaged youth with valuable life skills and soft skills - new methodology of individual and group youth work that can be done online, from distance - reaching out to the marginalized and disadvantaged youth We also wanted to address the needs of young people with reduced opportunities, we will mention some of them on which we have focused during the project: - Need for being heard - Need for resilience - Need for well-being - Need for confidence - Need for being trusted, being seen as a competent responsible human - Need for direction in life, a direction that serves their authentic growth - Need for acknowledging one’s own strengths, talents, gifts, abilities, resources - Need for understanding that mistakes are valuable source of learning - Need for belonging - Need for awareness about mental health Youth workers play an essential role in supporting youth in their social and professional path, therefore the project “Soul-Rooted Mentoring” AIMED at enhancing the capacities of youth workers to offer transformational and meaningful learning opportunities for social inclusion of hard to reach youth (including youth with mental health issues) by using mentoring. The objectives of the project were: By the end of the training 26 youth workers will: 1.
