Project summary

AIM AND APPROACH The project AdultLife is a strategic partnership that aims to support young people in transition to adult life by making information about the process available in an understandable, relatable and youthful way, on the following topics: Employability, Housing, Financial Literacy, Mental Health Well being, Citizenship and Participation. To achieve this, the project is designed by young people and puts young people in the conceptualization and decision making of it's outputs. To have a better understanding of the target group’s needs and to make sure the outputs have a tangible response to them, multiple stakeholders will be involved in this project like high schools, universities, youth workers, teachers, youth centers, youth information centers and municipalities. The involvement of all of them will be mediated by a participatory design methodology where multiple interviews and focus groups will take place with the objective of bringing together all of their perspective on the adulting phase and make them decide what suits better for the achievement of the project’s objectives. CONTEXT AND BACKGROUND This proposal comes from a need that young people have a hard time understanding the information provided because is perceived as too bureaucratic and isn’t created by and for young people; Also the touchpoints where the information is provided lacks the bridges and communication style to the platforms used by young people for example social media. The two factors combined makes the access to information of quality around the many topics of the adulting process difficult, which translates in youngsters that aren’t fully aware of what their rights are, how to make responsible decisions and how to participate in society in its social, economic and political dimensions. INTELLECTUAL OUTPUTS The proposed outputs fit the project’s objectives because they are conceptualized in a young adult focused and strategic way. At first they will grab their attention in social media with the VIDEOs, these serve as a bridge between social media where the target groups are widely present and the outputs with more detailed information and with the WEBSITEs or the PODCASTs; and the SURVIVAL MANUAL/DIARY serves as daily companion for the soon to be young adult. It’s content has not only information about this transition but also will have templates where they can plan their future alongside the usual purpose of a year planner; The ONLINE KITS FOR EDUCATORS and MOOC are designed to give educators working with young people in transition to adult life the tools to properly accompaign and use the delivered information with their youngsters. ACTIVITIES Apart from the development of the intellectual outputs following participatory approaches and design thinking, there will also be 4 transnational partner meetings, a staff training for youth workers, 3 national multiplier events, and a europewide webinar. Objectives

The aim of the project Adult Life was to support young people in their transition to adult life by making information about the process available in an understandable, relatable and youthful way, on the following topics: Employability, Housing, Financial Literacy, Mental HealthWell being, Citizenship and Participation. WE HAVE REACHED OUR INITIALLY PROPOSED OBJECTIVES: To collect and curate relevant information for young people related to transitioning to adult life, which is easily accessible online through text/manuals, infographics, podcasts and videos presented in a youth-friendly way in English and in the national languages of the partners organised by topics - ) we produced the IOs as planned and they are accessible for free on YT, websites, Podcast platforms, MOOC platform -) we have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from TG1 and TG2 about the huge need they have which is filled by our project which was very motivating for the team We covered both general information and country-specific information to open to be enhanced and self-sustaining after the project ends to develop tools, educational methods and resources for youth workers, teachers and other support persons to build up the skills, knowledge and attitudes in young people needed for transitioning to adult life, following the logic of design thinking: empathize with and research on needs and reality of main stakeholders involved, especially our two target groups: young people and youth workers define and ideate possible products meeting the identified needs and realities of the main stakeholders, especially with young people and youth workers prototype concrete products and test them with the main stakeholders, especially with youth workers and young people to train and support youth workers, teachers, and other support persons in the use of the developed tools, methods and resources bring together stakeholders and support the info channels between youth and them “AdultLife” wants to empower confused young people after finishing their high schools or Universities and helps them in orientation and navigation through becoming an adult. We want to help young people with access to verified information by using the channels which are attractive for them - podcasts, short videos and social media campaigns.

Background

IN A NUTSHELL Our main activities and products were: 3 national websites with 5 topics info and a library for educational providers 36 Podcasts, 12 by each organization 60 survival manuals in the national language per organization and 60 manuals in English 1 MOOC on adult life for education providers 1 Educational kit for an education provider, 9 Videos - 1 general introduction to adult life, 8 on the topics: 2x employment, 1x housing, 2x finances, 2x mental health, 1x citizenship + 1 making of/behind the scenes). The videos were narrated in English, Portuguese, German, and Slovak. 3 emotional promotional devotional videos on our organizations 4 transnational meetings in Slovakia, Austria and Portugal 1 kick-off meeting online due to covid restrictions 1 training course in Leiria, Portugal 3 multiplier events 1 webinar We collected and rewritten relevant info for young people related to transitioning to adult life and made it easily accessible online through text/manuals, infographics, podcasts and videos presented in a youth-friendly way in English and in the national languages of the partners organized by topics. We made a research that covered both general information and country-specific information open to be accessed in the final products of all 6 IOS; We developed tools, educational methods, and resources for youth workers, teachers and other support persons to build up the skills, knowledge and attitudes in young people needed for transitioning to adult life; that can be accessed in Survival Manual, MOOC and Educators KIT; We produced concrete products, tested by TG1 and TG2 CONTEXT We applied for this project because there was a lack of information on the topic of transition to adulthood; The info on the 5 topics (Housing, Financial Literacy, Citizenship and Politics, Employability and Health) was dispersed across multiple channels, which made access difficult; Also the info was not written in a youthful way, which made it not noticeable and generated many doubts for target group 1 (youth people in transition to active life). AIM and OBJECTIVES In the process of implementing the project we have addressed the needs of TG1 by collecting and centralizing info to inform and support young people in their transition to active life; using this info we made tools and resources for youth workers, teachers, and people who work with TG1, to be able to support young people and build up their skills and attitudes. “AdultLife” final results can empower youth by guiding them in the transition to becoming an adult; we made this happen by giving verified info in communication channels already used by our target group as examples: the podcasts, websites, videos, and survival manual. DIRECT PAX and TARGET GROUPS The participants directly involved in our activities were (TG2) trainers, youth workers, video producers, graphic designers and graphic artists, teachers, social workers, psychologists, and youth work managers but also (TG1) young people who were also testing each of our product.
