We are living in an age that tools for communication and obtaining information have been changed, developed and digitized. This development, on the one hand, contains positive results such as getting information faster, increasing communication and sharing among people about all kind of issues, which are useful, effective and helpful for people and societies, on the other hand, contains negative sides such as being an agent for spreading disordered information which could damage people, societies, disadvantaged groups. Besides, considering that young people have been born and lived in a digital era that encouraged them to believe mostly positive changes would come with accessing any information they need with a click or a swipe. However, young people are not aware enough of polluted information ecosystem and because the creation, production and distribution of disordered information has potential to damage societies, disadvantaged groups, minorities with hate speech, populist discourse, discrimination and exclusive online practices. With digitalization, youth are capable of creation, producing and distribution of disordered information as agents who are very talented at using (consciously or unconsciously) online platforms. In spite of, young people i) are unlikely to know their position (they can be creator, producer or distributor of any information disorder) in the communication process including digital one, ii) are not aware enough of that they can be targeted group of disordered information created, produced and distributed by different agents. Thus, “Information disorder” is chosen as a main topic of this YE project. This project’s general objective is to improve the competences and create awareness of 31 young people from 5 different countries to understand and identify information disorder itself, its types, elements and phases & to learn how to come through. Specific objectives are as follows: O1. to identify what the information disorder is and what the differences among its types are. O2. to have the understanding of positive and negative impacts of the digitalization, and the results of the actions in the digital world. O3. to experience the position of all agents, that take place in the communication process, to understand and improve critical thinking about how this process may have unexpectedly effect on people. O4. to consider the different phases of an instance of information disorder alongside its elements. O5. to learn how to struggle against information disorder in all phases and how to basically confirm information. O6. to understand the emotional and ritualistic elements of communication via, especially non-formal trainings in order to effectively address information pollution.
