UN framework convention on Climate Change (UNCCC) emphasizes the negative impact of human activities on climate change (Hereafter CC), which decreases the availability of nutritious food and clean water, and destroys ecosystems and secure living environments. This leads to malnutrition, ill health and migration, rendering youth particularly vulnerable. According to the WHO, millions of deaths annually are due to preventable environmental causes and mitigating environmental risk could save as many as four million lives a year in children alone. At the same time, youth constitute the majority of the population in many countries and empowering them with environmental awareness to address CC issue is essential for transforming our societies towards a low-carbon and climate resilient future. During the discussions beneficiaries of partner organisations revealed common problems in our communities: lack of awareness on CC and how to address this topic. All of us agreed that there is need to let the youngsters explore how local and global environmental challenges are linked, what are their contribution towards environmental degradation, how it affects them and their peers around the world and what are the tools to address the issue (on Individual, CSO and Governmental levels).
