Objectives

Recently we are all being witnesses of hate crime violence, discrimination, homophobia, immigration, unemployability, and a lot of other issues that are mainly rooted by the lack of awareness and knowledge of Human Rights. Above mentioned issues cannot be resolved by any one country acting alone. Therefore we as a youth and active members of our societies we decided to come up with the idea of the project. What can we do to prevent a violence in our communities and raise awareness about it? “Forum Theater” stands for one of the effective methods that not only presents the conflict but also gives the opportunity to find various solutions to resolve it. Through theatre, we show the issue to the audience and people themselves find the solution and change the scene according to how they think the resolution should be. ‘’Stage(s) of Life’’ is aimed to create a form of theatre where people become active and they explore, show, analyze and transform the reality which they are living. The idea behind it is that everyone has the capacity to act in the ”theater” of their own lives. The Forum theatre as a method has become very popular due to the Brazilian theatre-maker, activist and theorist Augusto Boal who created the theatre of the oppressed. And nowadays different techniques are used all over the world for social and political activism, conflict resolution, community building, therapy and governmental legislation. It may converge all levels of the community: activists, teachers, social workers, immigrants, minorities etc. During the project, we’ll introduce the participants the background and aim of the theater of the oppressed and forum theatre. The participants will practice Forum Theatre aiming to facilitate community dialogue on social issues, involving the audience in the search for transformative actions. We as people who will apply this method during the project don’t want to insist on a concrete issue that will be addressed through theatre. Moreover, we want to give a space to our participants to identify all issues that exist in their communities and choose the most relevant issue for themselves, local community to reflect about and raise the awareness on the stage.
